Why is England more famous than Scotland?

Why is England more famous than Scotland?England is the only country to host the olympics 3 times and some of our cities are the best in the world. But Scotland seems to have more of a country culture rather than England who has a mainstream culture. So why is England more well known than scotland?

Re: Why is England more famous than Scotland?Maybe because London is a gobal city, within a couple of hours flights from most major European cities and Heathrow is on of the busiest interchanges etc.(Original post by The_Great_One)

Glasgow is hosting the CWGs in 2014 though so it ain't all bad. -

Re: Why is England more famous than Scotland?Manchester tried bidding for the olympics a couple of times under the last tory government... Tory government uninterested in supporting anything that wasn't going to benefit the south east of england
manchester bid for the commonwealth games instead... Ran like clockwork, didn't need the army to cover for incompetent security or anything. -

Re: Why is England more famous than Scotland?England has a bigger population by far and London is an international centre for trade and business. And even our other cities such as Manhcester, B'ham and Liverpool are more well-known than the scottish cities. And our football teams do better and are more well-known.

Re: Why is England more famous than Scotland?England has a far more important history, simply due to London being the centre of Britain (and the world) and there being so many more Englishmen than Scotsmen: The Scots did many things (Alexander Graham-Bell invented the telephone), but the English did more because there are more of us. Furthermore, as someone already said the language the world speaks in English, so people think of England. Lastly, saying Scotland has more of a culture is a load of rubbish: English culture is only mainstream because the world (America) copied us. Think of the archetypal Victorian gentlemen - that's English culture; stiff-upper-lip, proud, tea-drinking, beef-eating, etc. England has just as strong a culture but it stand out less because it has been copied and redesigned all around the world.

Re: Why is England more famous than Scotland?Because Scotland isnt the nicest country and forces English students to pay more for going to uni there over international students and is also biased whereas if scottish students come to England they only have to pay the same amount as English students? (not really related closely to the thread, but really annoys me!)
