    Re: Tea in a teapot.
Coming from a family where teapots seem to be held in contempt for some reason I can't really figure out, I always make it in the mug, even if I'm making it for multiple people. Though my friend's family always use a pot, and they do make good tea.

I have a question, though, do you not get through teabags significantly more quickly if you use a pot? Don't you have to use one for the pot and one for each person?

Also, does it stay hot in the pot? Because I often quite want a second (or third) cup but boiling the kettle all over again just doesn't seem worth it. If a pot could fix this for me, I could probably be converted; I do, rather reasonlessly, really like the idea of a teapot

Mug if I'm in the house along, pot if I have other people round. Or pot if it's freezing/I'm in a bad mood! Always makes me feel better as it takes a lot nicer when made in a pot

I have one of those mini teapots which is usually about 2 mugs, which is how much I usually drink.

I use a teapot if I'm doing it properly, but occasionally I get lazy and just do it in the mug. A teapot definitely improves the taste, though, and makes it easier to use leaves over bags.

Teapot only for multiple brewings, otherwise if I'm just having one cup then why make all that tea so most of it can stay there to get cold? As for those saying it tastes better how on earth would it taste better? you're just making a larger volume of the stuff, you guys are as bad as pretentious wine tasting douchebags.
The shape and size (and occasionally material) of the teapot allows the tea to brew more easily; it makes it much easier if you want to use tea leaves (which are far superior to teabags); you can put the milk in first without lowering the boiling temperature. It's also clear from experience that it tastes nicer. I can only assume from your post that you've never had properly brewed tea in a teapot before. Call it pretentious if you want, but I'd rather make a better cup if I can.

My friends told me I was stupid and didn't drink tea right once, because I put my milk in before pouring out of the teapot
Your friends are wrong. Putting milk in first is the correct way to make tea (assuming it's from a teapot).

Mug. Unless I'm making large amounts of tea.
Or if I'm making ginger tea, when I just add random things to the tea pot, like cinnamon (and ginger, of course).

Well, no. Are you suggesting that, because I know how to make a proper cup of tea, that I must have gone to Eton? Even if I had, why would that make my point less valid?

It's like if someone said "You know, lager tastes better if it's been in the fridge" and you say "Well look at mister high-and-mighty, being picky about his beer temperature. Did the Queen tell you that?".
