Help I can't get on to facebook
about 3 weeks a go now I built my new PC, and since I had it I have not been able to get onto facebook. I can get onto all other sites, but not facebook.
Also, I use the same router as other people in my house, and they can all access facebook through it.
    I have tried 2 things:

    - many different browsers
    - typing "ipconfig /flushdns" into command prompt

None of the above have worked.

Does anyone else have any advice/tips for me?

p.s. I understand very little about networking, so simple words please (=

    What's your error message?

Also if it's only been 3 weeks can you restore your PC / reinstall windows?

In the command prompt, type the following:

    PING FACEBOOK.COM

and let me know what it returns.

there is no error message, nothing loads up at all, the browser looks like it is trying to load something, but nothing comes up,

also, I don't think restoring my PC would help, because facebook didn't work from the very beginning of my PCs life.

I haven't tried reinstalling windows yet, but I also can't see why reinstalling windows would be the only solution to fix this; I'll try that when all else fails

    Hi,

typing that into command prompt outputs the following:

Try it straight away. Then try updating your drivers etc. the problem is definitely software related.

Dr. Ben, I thought your PhD thesis is about; " Accessing Facebook via multiple computers - a comparative analysis".

Are you running a multi-OS computer (boot the other OS and try accessing it)? Or maybe you could try a linux distro and check? Maybe a firewall or antivirus blocked the access to Facebook?

OK, so we now know that your network at home is fine, your internet connection is fine, your DNS is fine and it's unlikely to be a problem with your network security settings. Your housemates can access it fine, so your IP address isn't blacklisted.

Can you try it through a different network connection (ie wired if currently wireless)?

I found that I can access it through google links, but it doesn't work properly, like the icons at the top dont work (like for the messages, and notifications etc), and its pretty slow

I'm using a desktop PC, I am wired and cannot go wireless at this time

EDIT: also I cannot load up other peoples profiles
