The people in this thread who bang on about it being "Second City". It's a meaningless title, with no effect on reality.
Are they? What "special dispensation" are they asking for?

    He's terrible at accents tbf
Yes, in reality they're much stronger than his. Nailed the yorkshire one though, in fairness to him.

As people listen to stereotypes and assumptions but never bother to look for themselves. They also fail to see our culture, that has developed and grown over the years. They are jealous of our night life and lastly, pissed off that ozzy and the weasley twins come from our lovely city

Special respect because it's big. Or else they wouldn't mention it.

Don't play dumb. You've been doing it too. Mentioning the fact that because Birmingham has this bizarre sobriquet of 'second city' that it's somehow worth more than other cities.

    So not dispensation then.

Tbh, the only person I've seen going on about respect is the OP. Who else has been saying its "worth more"?

about the music scene nope, theres a good few places to see live bands and ive seen quite a few obscure 'internet' bands either in the city centre or close-to, compared to some cities which only seem to have an O2 academy its not bad (obviously incomparable to london though, but for arguments sake london is only an hour and a half away aha )

and broad street, ive never been, but i've heard its good

oh and sorry guys - Solihull isn't birmingham but its definitely a good area lol and v. close to birmingham?

oh and about the music - loads of famous influential people have apparently come from there, though all i can think of without a sneaky google is Ozzy Ozbourne/black sabbath and oceancolourscene

I didn't mean about the music scene (I've been going on about how good it is enough!), but Broad St being a good night out. If you like cheesy pop, kebabs, vomit and fighting its a good night out. Each to their own!

I like Birmingham, it's nice. As as far as being a "dump", it's no more so than most other big UK cities.

Seriously, everyone in this country seems to hate Birmingham.

People always saying how it's a ****hole or how dumb we sound with our accents.

What have we done to deserve this ill treatment?

Birmingham deserves respect as the Second City of the UK.
It is not the second city of the UK. Yes it is the second biggest, but why does Birmingham deserve respect simply for being the second biggest city?

Well, there are some nice areas and some manky areas, but that's the same with every city. I liked the university when I visited

And the brummie accent isn't bad. It sounds way better than a lot of accents (like Essex!)
