..Would you complain if you were recieving preferential treatment at Work?
Your Boss has decided that you're his favorite worker
, due to your sheer likeability, your Boss wants to offer you £10,000 K extra per-annum.
But there's a problem - All the while your fellow co-workers (and friends) are receiving less for carrying out the exact same role.
They're earning £20,000 K, your on a grand £30,000 K
happy days, right.
Would you secretly accept that special privilege over your fellow co-workers/friends - then follow your Boss' advice by 'keeping quiet'?
.......Or outright angrily
refuse the raise due to your view on equality, special treatment, (the moral of the situation) even if though your fellow worker would never have found out..

I wouldn't turn it down. You are a moron if you turn down a 50% salary raise given the current economic climate. Donate it to charity if you feel it would be wrong to accept the money. But I would question his agenda for doing so and suspect some kind of ulterior motive.
Also it depends where the money is coming from. If it's a public service I would look into how my boss acquired the funds for such a raise, to make sure it was coming from somewhere like his own salary rather than a union pension fund. If it's a private institution, I wouldn't look into it.
Even if I found the idea of getting a raise for being likeable repulsive, I sure as hell would not kick up a storm, I would just turn it down quietly. Otherwise I run the risk of ruining someone's career purely because they were feeling generous and wanted to reward me. -

Especially if the boss lets it slip, so your colleagues hate you & the work environment is intolerable.
A nasty long-term tactic I heard happening to someone: by earning too much & looking for other jobs becomes hard as agencies try to put you in the minimum 25K end, but your experience/qualifications mean others who deserved £25K will get the job over you as you are a weak candidate in comparison. Also w'out agencies when u get asked for your salary, interview/app form - u may get rejected. I.E. you have become longer term unemployed. Same goes for having a job title too advanced for your level.

I'd take it, i wouldn't tell my co workers, not out of sneakiness, but discussing pay is just not the done thing, at least that is how its always been with me and people around me. Its just not something that comes up in discussion. I don't ask my friends what they earn, they don't ask me, and if i were to just go around telling people i was making more than them, well that would just be boasting ... and that usually ends badly.
