Foods to avoid for IBS
Have been suffering flare ups for weeks now - yesterday had diarrhea, day before, constipation, today constipation. It's now caused what my doctor is assuming to be piles again, as I've been bleeding from the back.
My (admittedly odd) GP advised crash dieting - she eats fruit for breakfast, dry tuna for lunch with dry lettuce , and veg/white meat for tea, with coffee to drink. Advised I do the same - apparently she has IBS and sticking to a rigid diet has helped her.
My mum says to cut out all dairy produce - she has done this and very rarely eats full meals - if she does she usually throws it straight back up, or it goes straight through her.
Today, I've had two slices of toast with peanut butter and baked beans, bit of birthday cake, followed by two slices of toast with one slice of cheese, ham and tomato sauce, later I had a chicken kiev with creamy pepper sauce and oven cooked chips. Have drunk a lucozade revive (380ml), a capri sun (300ml), 500 ml of orange juice and a hot orange/honey (300ml).
Yesterday - had two fried eggs/toast with orange juice, slice of my birthday cake, then a chicken caesar sandwich, a boost sweet, two slices of toast with butter and polished off a box of Guliyan chocs..
Day before had no breakfast, birthday cake, left over veg/chicken stir fry for lunch and left over veg/chicken pasta for tea.
Not got a clue where I am going wrong, but needing advice really as everyone in r/l says something different! -
Re: Foods to avoid for IBS
hey
with ibs everyone is different. there are many things you could try, for example i noticed you dont seem to eat a huge amount of veg so upping that may help, i found that cutting out all spicey food helped, cutting down on sugar intake, drinking more water seems to help aswell.
regular exercise really helps, even going for a walk to the shops or something helps it - i have noticed the days when i am more inactive it is slightly worse.
i am also on a fibre supplement which has seemed to help.
hope this helps a bit and i hope you manage to work out whats going on

Re: Foods to avoid for IBS
I have IBS, and wheat actually does the opposite to what it is meant to do. It blocks me up.
Cheese causes it, and so does ice cream, and yoghurts to some extent.
I can have milk though most days but yeah, I have to be careful. If my stomach is feeling a tad fragile in the morning, I'll have some toast instead of cereal. -
Re: Foods to avoid for IBSI have a dairy free diet, and it helps my body LOADS. really, I can't give it enough credit, cut out dairy. You are eating quite a bit of it when you read back.(Original post by daisydaffodil)

It's so much easier than you think to be dairy free.

Re: Foods to avoid for IBS
I'd say try avoiding anything with wheat or gluten in, dairy products, and spicy foods, or very fibrous foods for a week or two and see if it helps you. It's a very strict diet but it may help. I have slight gluten and dairy intolerance and before they were diagnosed my GP thought I may have IBS because I get those symptoms. I now avoid eating too much dairy or wheat or sugary or high fat products (another issue with my gall bladder!) and I hardly ever experience the symptoms.

Everyone's body is different so you need to find out what works for you. Keep a food diary for a month or 2 and through a process of elimination, you'll figure out what you can and can't eat. With gastro issues in general though, avoid too much fried food and ease up on caffeinated drinks.
