    which job do i take?
So Ive been working in a shoe shop on a zero hour contract for almost a year, but the manager can be really nasty when it comes to giving me hours (like saying he doesnt have any to give, and then employing someone else )
At the moment Im doing 15 hours a week because its sale, but i fear in September this will be cut down to a max of 5 hours a week. This isnt really the issue- I am going to keep this job regardless. The only issue is, that I could be cut out at any minute!

Anyway, Ive worked out that in order to live an average life at Uni I need to do a minimum of 10 hours a week of work. (my loan goes on accomodation). So my job would be what I live off each month.

However, I have another job doing promotion work and Im being bar trained at a club. This is all cash in hand, so not really reliable, again. However, it is within walking distance and is pretty convenient when the buses dont run! And when term time starts again, there will be more hours available. At a guess, I would say I would probably do about 8 hours a week here, though again this could vary from 2-16! I think this job would be easier getting days off/holidays etc because its cash in hand so no contracts. It also doesnt mess up my tax with the other job.

But, I have also been offered a job at Wetherspoons. This would be for 16 hours a week for Friday and Saturday nights. However, the main issue is that It would 1) mess up my tax for having 2 jobs and 2) It involves catching a taxi home for about 6-7 quid if my shift finishes after 11:30. However, it is also a prestigious company to work for. And hopefully there would be more shifts available. But holiday time wouldnt be so easy to get off.

Which job should I drop? The club or Wetherspoons?

You won't be paying tax as you won't be earning over 8k. Why not take both and drop the shoe shop job?

Having the Wetherspoons job won't mess up your tax if you ring HMRC and tell them you want your tax allowance splitting over the two. Both your jobs will then get a code that means you won't get taxed until you're earning around £4k. I definitely think you should take that job as it's reliable hours and you've said yourself you need the money because your student loan won't be enough. It's then up to you whether to stay at the shoe shop for a little extra cash or quit.

If your loan was enough to live off then the promotions job would be a good option but I don't think it'd be a good idea for you to risk it when you need those 10 hours a week. What if you do and come September you end up with the 2 hours minimum every week?
