Re: Could the UK start something new again?I'm all for entrepreneurship and innovation. I hope we'll continue and improve at coming up with new stuff that makes us happier, healthier and wealthier. I'd prefer if it wasn't weapons though. Maybe medical technology, better housing, fuel efficiency, information tech etc, food availability...(Original post by The_Great_One)
Do you think we could start something such as the industrial revolution again. The one thing we can make is weapons so maybe we could create the next generation of weapons maybe? -
Re: Could the UK start something new again? Most islamic countries aren't republics. The best ones arent such as Qatar.(Original post by Lilahx)

Re: Could the UK start something new again?
To start something like the industrial revolution, or the internet requires a game changing invention. This requires origional research which happens all the time.
My personal favourite is Graphene, the production process was discovered in Manchester, which has been given £50m by HMG do develop towards practical applications. Metamaterials could be Britain's thing, if you're really optimistic. -
Re: Could the UK start something new again? There's irony in there somewhere.(Original post by sulpicia)

Re: Could the UK start something new again?
There will be nothing of the sort with weapons. If anything I see the world going towards a peaceful direction. The "next big thing" will not start in Britain but will rather be a joint effort from many countries because that's just what we've started doing - sharing knowledge and ideas.

Re: Could the UK start something new again?Well we have just created the sea viper missile that can shoot a golf ball travelling at three times the speed of sound lol.(Original post by Dragonfly07)

Re: Could the UK start something new again?
To be honest, it's very hard to predict what kind of breakthrough we will experience in technology even in the next 50 years. I mean, imagine if you went back to 1962 and told people all about the internet and what it would be like in 50 years. They'd probably laugh in your face.

Re: Could the UK start something new again? That's just so resource-intensive though. Something major in propulsion or indeed energy (see above!) needs to change before that is a major thing.(Original post by The_Great_One)
I've just had a thought. Commercial flights to space will be the next thing and Richard Branson is leading the way.
