not surprising, considering they are the most popular boyband in the world
Would understand it if the target audience would mainly consist of mentally left behind teenage girls, but this is the whole world watching.

Plus their music is gob****e...why not Coldplay for instance?
They could definitely get the crowd going, but One Direction? NEVER.

    Coldplay are overrated

I would've loved radiohead to perform.that would be awesome.

You know, I really didn't like the first reports of what was going to be in the Opening Ceremony, and was well prepared to hate it. I ended up loving it to pieces. It was brilliant. And I want to keep an open mind about the Closing Ceremony...

But I ****ing hate One Direction.

"An estimated 300 performers will take part in a routine based on the capital’s rush hour, with cars, scooters and bicycles hurrying around the main stage while lollipop ladies direct the tooting traffic and road workers drill the pavements.
Then, to a potentially controversial Full Monty-style rendition of the National Anthem, the performers will strip off their costumes – the lollipop ladies will reveal Union Jack-themed swimsuits, while the commuters and road workers will be in similarly patriotic bodysuits and other outfits"

Surely they can't go ahead with this following that cyclist's death? (Should have made it the opening ceremony...)

Cold play over One direction any day. Some really bad choices for the ceremony.

Rumours that Ed Sheeran will actually be performing with members of Pink Floyd, not by himself.
