he is a white eton/oxbridge guy, like the current fool in power whos determined to destroy our country and ruin the economy, we need a normal person from a normal background in power
I really don't get the hate you have for someone based on their background, but then, maybe it's just me?

Edit. And you don't like him because of his colour...

actually the poster i was replying too said that exact white eton oxbridge guy, i copied him to make a point he is exactly the same as every other politician just with a veneer of stupidity to mask the evil. so if you could remove that allegation of racism thanks

i donthate him based on his background but the fact the cabinet is all millionaires means they cannot comprehend the problems facing ordinary people, we should be governed by people like us not the rich elite

We should be governed by the best people for the job. Their background should be immaterial - if I were to say "he can't be PM, he went to a state school" how would you then react?

*NOT MY ACTUAL OPINION, JUST USED FOR SAKE OF ARGUMENT

Yes, I like his policies and I like his style. He's got Cam/Os on the ropes and I think he'd be good for the party and the country.

    Boris Johnson for Prime Minister?

Yeah and we'll have Mr Bean as the Defence Secretary and the Chuckle brothers running the Home Office.

He's good for a laugh, but he would be no good as leader of the country

John Major went to a state funded grammar school, so 1990-97. Last party leader was probably Michael Howard, who famously told Blair (in the initial debate on tuition fee introduction back in 2003: 'This grammar school boy isn't going to take any lessons from a public school boy on the importance of children from less privileged backgrounds gaining access to university')

thanks, so 15 years ago, why is it so rare and infrequent we end up with a pm from a "normal" background, rather than millionaires and billionaires?

John Major was the last of the old guard of politicians who had done something useful before going into politics. Sadly, it is now a career. At least Boris was a successful journalist.

Perhaps. If the Tories lose the next election, I imagine they'll swing slightly to the right and maybe become a bit more Eurosceptic to appeal to their core base, and Boris would be the perfect figurehead of such a Conservative party.

I hope he doesn't though. He's charismatic and it's admittedly quite funny seeing him run London, but the country? It'd be embarrassing, and I'd hope we're not so foolish as a country to be won over by his stale clown act.

does he actually do a competent job? I don't live in london so really have no idea, the only things I know him for are his numerous comedy moments... that haircut makes him seem like a clown somehow too. Can you picture him saving the country?

He delivered 91% of his 2008 manifesto so not too bad.

Five of 11 post-war PMs went to state schools, many of whom I am sure come from 'normal' backgrounds. I honestly don't have the time or inclination to delve into their family histories.

People like him because he's "funny", not because he's a good MP. He's just a rich boy with no experience of the world beyond his protected Bullingdon club lifestyle. I wouldn't want him as a PM because he's a tory.

    Re: Boris Johnson for PM?
Boris is a good mayor, but I think he would be a disaster for the Tories as PM.

facts and statistics he quote often turn out to be wrong; the evidence he gave to the Home Affairs Select Committee last year was made-up. He has failed to control costs - e.g. promising that the Skyline would cost no public money just before the project needed a multi-million cash injection. He is involved he is involved in too many scandals - supporting Bob Diamond in a time of scandal, inviting Rupert Murdoch to the Olympics and filling city hall with his own stooges on six-figure salaries. He can get away with this as Mayor but would get torn to shreds by the papers if he was PM.

I reckon the Tories would kick him out quickly if he was elected leader. Boris is a Europsceptic but he is massively inconsistent and he is a flip-flopper.

He's such a great character, watching him getting stuck on the zip wire the other day was just hilarious. He's definitely not a stupid man, he'd be a very noble PM and respected, he can be quite cynical and he will say what he thinks.

Although the Tories don't want to run Britain how i'd like it, so i wouldn't vote for him. But i'd be much happier with Boris than snaky Cameron .

I want to hate the tory tosser so much, but I love him. I absolutely adore him.

    What the hell - YES!
Exactly the same opinion. Hate what he stands for so much but he's just an absolutely legend. Politics would be a much, much duller place without that's for sure :yep:
