Doesn't even have to be right wing, they could have just focused on our history rather than music. Don't get me wrong British music has been very influential around the world however I would never put it on par with the industrial revolution. We invented the radar, jet engines, army tanks, computers, world wide web (which got credit), first trains, the telephone, universal standard time, stainless steel etc etc as well as many famous discoveries such as gravity. Yet we whored out our musicians when we could have at least whored out all the sports we invented at least they would have been more relevant.

I reckon all the war related stuff was left out on purpose, which included computers (nobody would have recognised WITCH), gravity wasn't discovered, only newton found a way of describing it and that was way before the time period the opening ceremony looked at. The trains may have been good, but our current trains are being used by most of the people getting to the event and nobody likes thinking about a packed train trip... Some football would have been good, but we did have Beckham for that.

Still live the comedy bits though, nowhere else would/could have done it.

Indeed, most of it would be Boris, just lumbering around looking jolly, handing out VIP passes to tax evaders and other people from Monaco (not many of those!) and playing soothing music to keep the plebs in order. Everything would cost £99.99 and to watch more than 4 seconds of it on any channel would invoke a fine of £99.99, payable immediately, to Virgin/BT/BP/Bob Diamond/EDF (choose your own private monopoly from the list) and used to manipulate markets. Late payment will be enforced by visits to your property from G4S bailiffs. Anyone thinking about the good old days when human values mattered vill be shot.

Yeah, it was particularly heart-warming seeing him with Rupe and Wendi in the Royal Box, enjoying a chat about how they can destroy what is left of British culture and sell the BBC to Sky. Also great to see Jeremy Hunt bump into Rupe and Wendi on the way out - such a friendly meeting! It's so nice that they've put hacking missing children's phones behind them and are all friends together again!
