    Teachers With Tattoos
Just a curiousity thing really, what are your views of teachers with tattoos? Is it more acceptable in secondary schools than primary schools? Is it acceptable at all?

As I said, I'm just generally curious on people's views on this matter.
    xx

I had a teacher with a HUGE Nine Inch Nails tat covering his entire back. He was a good bloke and a good teacher. Nobody cared.

I think the only time it would be thought about or discussed would be when applying for a new job if its visible and the new school/departments have a problem with it.

Are you worried about the teachers promoting their radical tattoo agenda?

Most of my teachers had tattoos.
I've got a sleeve but I'll be covering that up at teaching interviews in case they deem it inappropriate.

Not very professional, is it? Doesn't send off a good message.

Yeah I don't think that's professional. It's the same with piercings.

I never noticed that my teachers had tattoos, if they did. Maybe it's different in secondary, but in my experience within the Primary Ed degree they frown upon them, if visible. Some teachers at my placement school had ones on their back or leg, but those were always covered up.

It shouldn't matter. It doesn't define them as a person. IMO

I think that they should be covered in the work place having them on display I don't think is professional and they are supposed to dress smart and in a professional way. If I ever got such a job I would keep mine covered.

One of my teachers has a tattoo. Wouldn't know if she didn't tell us as I've never seen it. I think she said it says Liberty or something like that, which is the name of her horse.

I think its fine as long as its not something offensive, and most tattoos can be covered so it doesn't really matter.

I don´t think tattoos are bad on teachers. The person is more important than the outward appearance.

Teachers are supposed to be academic.

    Yes.

In what way does a tattoo get in the way of being academic?

    Re: Teachers With Tattoos
It depends where the tattoos are, if it's not noticable then no one cares but if it was something huge plastered all over their arm or whatever then I think people would be a little bit like ermm woah! To be honest I don't even know why I would feel like that as I know a tatoo doesn't determine how clever a person or anything but I think in certain professions they look a bit out of place. For example my mum (whos a nurse and interviews for jobs) was telling me that they aren't allowed to employ nurses with visible tatoos as it looks unprofessional (thats not my mums view but thats the guidelines she has to follow when employing new staff).

    Yes.

They look odd. An intelligent person would think, so and so means a lot to me. I won't use a tattoo, but instead paint a painting or write a poem/song to show my appreciation.

    Rather than a permanent tattoo.

The skin shouldn't have such ink.
