First Class Degree From Imperial - Not Sure what to do
Hi guys,I recently graduated from Imperial with a high first in Materials Science and Engeering and will be starting a MPhil programme in Nuclear Energy at Cambridge in October. I will have to apply for jobs this year but I really am clueless what I should do after the masters and what I could/ should apply for. Any serious responses would be appreciated. Many Thanks,Bo'diddley

I really do not understand why I am being negged for this, I just asked a serious honest question. If I offended anyone, my apologies but I do not see where.

Obviously go for some Front office Investment Bank roles, ie S&T or IBD GS or maybe try management consultancy's such as Mckinsey etc...

TBh, world's your oyster bang out loads of Grad Role Apps and get multiple job offers and you can pick and choose finally what you want after the MPhil etc...

Thanks for your advice, do you think it would be hard to apply for finance - I have no internship in that area (doing a Nuclear related one atm)

I am worried they may ask me why I chose to do a masters in Nuclear and not finance related in the interview which I won't be able to answer. Thanks though.

Just use the concept of transferrable skills, you are applying to consolidate your experiences essentially. For example nuclear engineers will still essentially need financing... ie specific industry experience is v valuable...

Also, since you are at Cambridge you have the oppurtunity to study say Accounting and Finance module (or other such modules) as part of your Mphil, so you will end up with actual knowledge that could help prepare you for a multitude of jobs....

Yeah I will take a few of the business school electives such as management, A&F etc. I will spend the remainder of this holiday looking at banking interview techniques and reading up on the markets etc. Thanks for all your help.

But you get a job straight away from medicine and a very high paying one so it will be easy to pay it off, no? I am very naive in this area, but my common sense tells me the truth a lot of times.

It seems sad that you would go into finance since it is clear you are very talented in the area of science and Engineering. Have you considered working for people such as Rolls Royce, GE, BP, or moving into the defence sector. If you enjoyed studying what you have for the last 3-4 years it is at least worth thinking about.
