Re: Pink Floyd To Play Olympics Closing Ceremony With.....
I was happy enough when they played Eclipse at the end of the opening ceremony.
But it's not Floyd without Rick

I would love to hear echoes just one more time....
Also Dave or Rogers not turning up is a bummer, as well as the fact that Ed Sheeran is performing with them. This is going to be rubbish. Live 8 was where it should have ended. This is stupid.Last edited by Pinkhead; 05-08-2012 at 00:30. -
Re: Pink Floyd To Play Olympics Closing Ceremony With.....Agreed, a very odd pair indeed. To be honest, this story seems a little ambiguous and potentially misleading. I expect it to, unfortunately, be Sheeran playing with an appearance from Nick Mason.(Original post by Gob Bluth)
It's a shame really to see someone so average go alongside perhaps the greatest band of its generation. Was it Floyd who chose it or? I find a lot of the older bands really have a terrible knowledge of modern music from what i have seen though. Some terrible stuff for example that Brian May advocates
No one should really be collaborating with Pink Floyd, especially when they (Sheeran) have so little to add to the band (in terms of sound and performance). -

Well Pink Floyd have denied it apparently. Here's hoping they aren't idiots

This is actually the second (possibly third?) time Pink Floyd have had to deny they're due to perform at the Olympics.
Ed Sheeran is a total non-entity, I don't see Pink Floyd ever dueting with him. I really hope not anyway. -
Re: Pink Floyd To Play Olympics Closing Ceremony With.....Not that much tbh, but what heard didn't appeal. I will check out Animals...(Original post by Samrout)
IMA COMIN AT U
What have you heard by them? Some of their later stuff is a little depressing but a great album would be Animals. -
Re: Pink Floyd To Play Olympics Closing Ceremony With.....they don't hate eachothers guts like gilmore and waters do they? Just turned into grumpy old geezers.(Original post by Fool In The Rain)
I guess it's just to keep the kids happy (especially since One Direction is apparently performing there
)
It'll be even more unlikely for progressive rock to get a mention
(except for Pink Floyd). Again, a huge shame, but I doubt the majority of people could cope with songs that go on for more than 5 minutes, let alone song's like Jethro Tull's Thick as a Brick, 44 minutes of glory (I don't think they performed the entire song live).
The closing ceremony would be brilliant if they could get the Peter Gabriel line-up for Genesis (though this will never happen and I wanted to hear Supper's Ready
).
I guess Mike oldfield was flying the flag for prog in the opening, That might be your lot.
I'd have thought clodplay would have been the organisers band of choice for the close tbh since they're reasonably current (had singles since most of the athletes were born) and are blandly inoffensive.
Hopefully the ginger one is pulling our leg about performing with a gutted pf. Doesn't sound like something I'd enjoy very much tbh. -

Re: Pink Floyd To Play Olympics Closing Ceremony With.....Perhaps (though I'd be slightly sceptical about that too), but at any rate that's not Pink Floyd.(Original post by Pinkhead)

Re: Pink Floyd To Play Olympics Closing Ceremony With.....They don't hate each other, Gabriel is prepared to do it, if there's enough money in it for him. He said in an interview once that he's been sent several large brown envelopes with a contract in, but so far it's not been big enough.(Original post by Joinedup)

I think Gabriel turning up on his own would be fantastic, so long as he doesn't do that orchestral nonsense. I really haven't liked his recent output.
In response to PF saying they are not performing, I interpret it as them not performing as a whole. Remember that Pink Floyd TODAY is Gilmour and Mason ONLY. If one of those does not show up, then it's not PF, it'd be Mason or Gilmour doing something on their own with other musicians...like, for example, Waters. As Mason is confirmed it looks like Gilmour won't be there. -

Re: Pink Floyd To Play Olympics Closing Ceremony With.....That would be good. I am not really that much of a Kate Bush fan, but in terms of showcasing British music over the last fifty years it is a far better choice than the inevitable chart pop drivel that will be present.(Original post by Penbole)
