    Hi Lamb Bhuna,

I intend to apply for Youth and Community work course. Is really good that you already have a clear career path before applying to university. There is no need to panic, you are in better position than many students, you know that career adviser is your future. All you need to do is to compare the courses available to you.Ask yourself :

How far I want to travel?
What kind of modules I want to study ?
Which method of assessment I prefer ?
Will I enjoy learning in a class with tutors that can keep me guidance or I prefer a distance learning course ?
What qualification I would prefer to achieve at the end of the course?

If I were you ,I would go for the Huddersfield course .It offers placement and probably better qualification. Also if you are struggling with funding ,you should take the course fees in consideration.

    All the best !

Cucumber lettuce, there's always one rotten tomato in the salad, isn't there!

Thanks Elika, where are you doing your Youth and Community Course? I think at Huddersfield they teach the Youth and Community course with the Guidance Course. I think the course you're going to be doing is really good. I know in Leeds, where I am from, I have seen a huge rise recently in the number of youth work related vacancies I am seeing advertised over the last few months. I definitely think that's a wise career move.

I actually applied for Lpc at Met and paid the deposit . A week ago ,one the way home I realised that I do not want to be a solicitor.A bit fed up with all the competition and rejection letters.Strange enough since high school I worked as a volunteer for different ONG .I think I always wanted to work with children and give something back to the community . As a freelance interpreter been working with the Council for 4 years so I observed what people in youth work do.I think you need to be honest with yourself .I personally think is never to late to follow your heart.

They have courses for career advise?! How about life experience? I've never had a career advisor give me accurate career advise because they've never had the experience of working in the kind of professions I've spoke to them about. They didn't know about basics of getting into anything, just make assumptions or quote textbooks. They didn't even know about career development loans! I've got by in life doing my own research. Honestly this would explains a lot!

Bacteria, if you are not going to respond to the original post and don't have anything constructive to add to this thread, I would kindly ask you to vent your opinions elsewhere. Make up your own thread if you are so disgruntled with Careers Advisers. I don't want your negative energy here, thank you very much.

Elika-how strange-I did the L.P.C. and then decided I didn't want to become a Solicitor whilst on the Course. I completed it and it was hard work. Which language do you interpret in? I am also multi-lingual. We seem to have a few things in common.

That is strange I did volunteering all my life and I enjoy working with children and young people. I never regret doing my LLB,I am still very much passionate about consumer law and human rights .Is never to late to find your true vocation ,having the strength to start all over again is a great quality.

I am working freelance for several agencies .I do face to face Romanian Interpreting .What language do you speak? There is plenty of work and money in interpreting .

I would recommend you do a Postgraduate Careers Guidance course at University of East London. They will organise placement in workplacement which will give you valuable experience and important for your future job.
