How hard is it to get an A* in A level Maths?
To anyone whose currently in A2 doing A level Maths or has done it how hard is it to get the top grade? Do you have to be a natural genius at maths or will a lot of past papers do it?

And what are the grade boundaries for a A* in Core 3 & Core 4? Thanks.

It is much easier to get an A* if you actually understand the material

It is actually really easy. Just make sure you spend lots of time on the material, and practice questions etc.

It's possible with loads of practice through past papers. The grade boundaries vary depending on the difficulty of the paper but you need to get at least an average of 90% UMS between the two.

Maths is the easiest subject to get a U and easiest to get A*.

If you understand it and work for it (if you need to) you can guarantee yourself it.

People may disagree, but nowadays, unless you have some genuine maths ability, the highest you can get by hard work (past papers and textbook) alone is an A. The A* this year certainly seemed to be living up to its purpose this year, i.e to properly distinguish the most intelligent. AQA Core 4 and Core 3 this year a case in point

To get A* you need 80% overall out of 600, but must get atleast 90% in the A2 modules.

EDIT: I realise this isnt very encouraging. Well, tough!

Thanks, I know its 90% but I meant like how many marks out of 75 would it be for the A* as I've heard there's high boundaries!

Boundaries vary by board and by individual paper

Well I got an A* in GCSE Maths in year 10 but I heard GCSE performance is no indication of A level performance; as some people who got A* at GCSE really struggle at A level.
