Re: View on "Team GB" being British? They would still get their money from the government(Original post by Mess.)

The ones that are decent are thanks to British lottery money and generally train in English centres. Would love to see whatever nonsense athletes Scotland could come up with using their own money and facilities from scratch
as they do for everything they want to do.
University, free old age care, free prescription... Scottish Nationalist Party will always be the one for me. Then let them fund their own things -
Re: View on "Team GB" being British? Why would you much rather a Scottish team? Are we English and Welsh not good enough for you to mix with?(Original post by RobertAnthonySmith)
You're all misunderstanding my point. I don't want more Scots in Team GB. I'd much rather a Scotland team. Although I appreciate all your opinions. (except the one which was a blatant dig by that moderator, that slightly offended me)
-
Re: View on "Team GB" being British? So? If more Scottish athletes were at the level to be selected, they would be. It's not the fault of the BOA that there aren't many.(Original post by RobertAnthonySmith)
This just about backs up my point... 10/541... 1.8% of Team GB are Scottish.
They select the best athlete for the slot. End of story.
You want to support a Scottish team? Wait for the Commonwealths. -
Re: View on "Team GB" being British?Thats exactly what I thought. Though some users are claiming Team GB pick more English athletes, how is that possible if a scottish person is good enough they will be in top competitions and then olympic trials, nationality has nothing to do with it. o.o(Original post by megan.c)
I think Olympic athletes are scouted from the nations top competitions in whatever sport it is they compete in, then they go on to specific Olympic trials where they find out who is the absolute best.
I'm pretty sure anyway -
Re: View on "Team GB" being British?Indeed. I didn't say he couldn't mock Scotland, it just offended me.(Original post by madders94)
... moderators are still allowed opinions, you know. Just because they moderate some of (or all of) the forums on here, doesn't mean they lose their right to an opinion, whether it's joking or not, on a topic. -
Re: View on "Team GB" being British? He was born in Belgium lol, but really he is a Londoner!(Original post by HDBrowne)
Isn't Wiggins from the Isle of Man? which isn't actually Britain lol but still
Which language are you speaking?(Original post by Aaron_xyz)
It's actually center.. get it right. -

Re: View on "Team GB" being British? You just had to make Northern Ireland the orange disc!(Original post by HDBrowne)
If you had a Bag of discs
53 White (England)
3 Green (Wales)
5 Blue (Scotland)
2 Orange (Northern Ireland)
what are the chances you'll pick a blue over white?
The whole Team GB/Team UK/We want our own team debate doesn't bother me in the slightest. Better chance of getting medals if we pull together. -
Re: View on "Team GB" being British?(Original post by UMARTIAN)

That's only the first 10... there's four more pages on that link. -
Re: View on "Team GB" being British?Yes my 1st comment was being pedantic, however it matters, even more so when you actually have the nerve to dismiss my correction and claim you were actually correct when you were actually wrong and my correction was correct.(Original post by Aaron_xyz)
Now you're just being pedantic, you know what I meant. -
Re: View on "Team GB" being British? Can only think inferiority complex.(Original post by doggyfizzel)
This has got to be a troll.
Team GB is open to anyone who is British and the athletes have to be selected based on form. Any Scottish athlete can apply, and clearly plenty have.
Why do (some) Scots have this attitude but not the Welsh?
But again, only some of them. Am positive Hoy and Murray would say differently. -
Re: View on "Team GB" being British? The language which Wikipedia uses, apparently: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Center_(basketball)
Although I retract my statement as both are technically correct, even though one is obviously more used than the other internationally..Last edited by Aaron_xyz; 02-08-2012 at 20:10. -
Re: View on "Team GB" being British?I'm not a troll. I also don't regard myself as British. I'm Scottish(Original post by doggyfizzel)

Re: View on "Team GB" being British?Cavendish is from the isle of man, Wiggins was born in Belgium to an Australlian father and British mother, and as he has lived in the UK since he was about 2 years old he competes for team GB. It is also easier for him as team GB has strong links with team Sky, his professional team.(Original post by HDBrowne)
Isn't Wiggins from the Isle of Man? which isn't actually Britain lol but still -
Re: View on "Team GB" being British?
Seeing as 54 million out of 64 million British people live in England, it makes sense that there would be more English athletes than Scottish (or Welsh or N. Irish). If a Scottish athlete was better than an English they would be chosen, because we want the best team we can possibly have.

Re: View on "Team GB" being British?(Original post by RobertAnthonySmith)
I'd rather do **** as Scotland than be part of Team GB, purely because I am quite the Scottish nationalist and don't like the fact that we can't shine at the Olympics because Team GB choose majority English athletes.
Every Scottish athlete that deserves to be there, is there. -
Re: View on "Team GB" being British? And you don't think that's extraordinarily petty? Because I and many others do.(Original post by RobertAnthonySmith)
I'm not a troll. I also don't regard myself as British. I'm Scottish
I'm not English, I'm British, I'm just from England.
as they do for everything they want to do.
