    ACA help
    Hi Everyone,
I really need some advice and cheering up .

I'm doing a BSc Mathematics degree and in my final year aiming for a first but sure i could get the 2:1

I want to go into chartered accountancy.

I have tried to go onliny and start applying untill i saw the entry requirments were
    280 ucas points, and a 2:1

    I have 260 ucas points .

My lecturers at uni were saying a 1st in a mathematics degree would over ride my ucas points. I had planned to re-sit my a-levels but my lectuer at uni said dont bother they dont matter after your degree.

And now they do. So im really upset and worried.

A family friend of mine achieved a 2:2 in her degree and got onto chartered accountancy graduate scheme.
    I'm getting worried and upset.

Someone suggested earning the extra ucas points. I have no clue.

Can someone help me and guide me to what to do please!

    Thankyouu

I'm really confused if she could get in with a 2:2, im not sure if anyone would accpet me with a 1st in maths alongside 260 points
    or 2:1 maths 260 points :(

Keep checking back, it's not quite the right time for firms to put up vacancies yet.

Just apply anyway. You might get rejected, you might not. No risk no reward.

I really would advise you to lose this attitude, as harsh as it sounds. If you're not open south England then you're severely limiting your options and with the graduate market the way it is no one is really in a position to dictate terms.

Hi, it's okay not harsh at all. I am restricted i can only work in the north west and closer to my home. There are ALOT of firms near manchester they just ask for alot of Ucas points.

I know i can get my 1st in maths degree, and im just curious to know if i have a chance with 260 ucas points when they ask for 280.

For smaller firms you a very good shot. For the larger ones it might be more difficult to get pass their UCAS tariff barriers, but as I said before, if you don't try you'll never know.

I hate UCAS point filters and I have 300. Feel bad for you buddy getting caught up on 260. I guess on the bright side whereas 260 UCAS may inhibit you're first job as a fresh graduate, once you have a few years industry experience the only academic result people will be interested in will be your degree. Definitely going to have a better shot with smaller firms, doubt the big ones will move that significantly on their requirements without a very good reason.

Sigh, bloody Chaucer (any English Lit students may feel my pain).

Hi everyone, thankyou so much! for getting back to me. I'm feeling better now.
Most firms on the Icaew website, are big firms.
does anyone know how i can contact smaller firms?

i HAVE googled and i have managed to find about 4 and that was after 8 hours of search.

Is there another website where firms post vacancies?

Also there is a finance fair in manchester in ocotober
i think most employers will be there too?

Hello, thankyou for getting back to me,
Hopefully if i do get into ACA with a small firm and after my qualification will my A-level grades still matter for the rest of my life?

Or will my degree be enough?

ICAEW is the Institute of Chartered Accountants for England and Wales, ACA is the qualification they offer.

As far as I'm aware nobody will be interested in you A-levels once you are qualified.

    GL landing a position.

ive emailed quite alot of firms and i've had 1 firm back who are just interested in my degree and not my ucas

Makes me happy but sad to know i may only be applying to 2 or three firms while others will be applying to lots.

Doesnt make my chance of getting into the scheme
