    Speaker Election II
As RON won the vote in the Speaker Election, I am re-opening nominations for the position.

If you wish to run, you will need to submit a manifesto of no more than 250 words by 7pm on Thursday 9th August 2012. Late entries will not be accepted. Candidates who previously submitted manifestos will have to re-submit if they wish to be entered.

TimetableThursday 9th August (Evening) - Manifestos posted; 3 day Q&A period begins.

Sunday 12th August - 4 day secret voting period begins.

Thursday 16th August. Voting Closes. If a candidate has gained more than 50% of the vote, they are elected, else a second round of voting begins.

Sunday 19th August. Second round of voting closes (if required). The candidate with the highest number of votes is elected.

If you have any questions, feel free to post here.

    Good Luck!

A whole week to submit a manifesto overkill.

This is as it is defined in the Guidance Document though.

1 week is perfectly acceptable in a normal speaker election but this is the second round after a RON victory.

And the Guidance Document states that there is another one week period. Nick's following the Guidance Document and Nick's right to do so.

Then change it. Make an amendment and change it.

But you can write an amendment and get five MPs to second it. Depending on the content, I'd be willing to second it and I'm sure that others would be.

You may not affect this race, but you could affect future elections and that is what's important - that we've learned from this election.

Well seeing as I'll be the speaker during the next election I can just ignore the guidance document.

The role of the Speaker is to adhere to the Constitution and Guidance Document, not ignoring those Documents. Interpretation is another element in this point

As metrobeans has done I will do what is best for the house by using my own judgement rather than simply relying on the judgement of those that devised the guidance document. So I will be using my own interpretation of the guidance document.
