    What Sport Should I Try?
Hope this is the right place...

I've been asked by a friend to go along to an athletics club, but I've never really done athletics and I don't know which sport to try out.

I have a long torso, arms and short legs, so really I have a body shape more beneficial for a swimmer and not good for running - which isn't great as I can't swim

However, I do a lot of walking (im a fast walker which annoys a lot of people) and I'm pretty active.

What sport would you recommend me trying out?

Try all of them. I'm pretty sure they you will be able to try out each sport. If not what have you done before, you seem like a long distance runner but thats just a judgement lol

I have been doing athletics for about 8ish years and your body shape doesnt tend to matter too much. The sport has such a large spectrum of events that you may find you are better at some more than others, then you can train for that specific event once you've had a go at them all

I've done some running before in PE but I hated PE so didn't really bother putting the effort in.

Walking to school, uphill, it takes me about 20 minutes to go 2 miles. Don't know whether thats good or bad...

you cant really say what you'd prefer atm. Try each sport such, both track and on the field, and then you will be able to go a certain way

Just go down to your local track, there will be coaches there to advise you on what sort of training you want to do.

If your any good they will most likely try and get you to compete in competitions so either be prepared to compete or come up with good excuses

    also what age are you?

Maybe you should try swimming -- you never know when you might need it.

I know the theory behind the swimming in case, but I have a slight fear of deep ends due to something that happened in Primary School. It is a bit irrational.

Try Rugby. It's the off-season now so you could go to a local club (plenty in Wales) and train with them.

    Surely motorsport?!

If not could try rowing, that's something which needs the sort of bodyshape swimmers have too. Also, possible to pick it up quite late and get good. Helen Glover just won Olympic Gold after doing it for only a year!

I was never any good at rugby in PE, whether that was me or the fact that I didn't get on with anyone in my class im unsure of.

I wouldn't mind rowing, but I have no-idea where to go and how to start.

Use the club finder here: http://www.britishrowing.org/taking-part

Just stick your postcode in. If you plan on going to uni virtually all of them have novice crews you can join. If you go to Oxbridge or Durham they also have intercollegiate competitions too.

It'd be worth a crack. At the very least you'd get a good pre-season workout!
