Re: Can you choose something different in clearing? What do you mean??(Original post by gonnabesomething)
Nah, I've checked this
The reason why I've chosen to study what I have is cos it's at a good uni, but at a lower ranked uni I think I'll choose a more direct degree as it'll make it easier to sell myself for a training contract later on, as I'll have less ucas points as well
History and Philosophy degrees are both useful if your planning to go into law later on...
How would Philosophy help you sell yourself more??

Not law, something else
and also, that was an example, that's not my intention.

err something in accounting or finance?! I chose maths very early on because I didn't know what I wanted to do specifically, maths left we with a wide range of options.
I take it if you're going for an accounting & finance course you're going for something similar job after uni? :P
Yeah, I wanna study the ACA after, so degree doesn't matter too much but if I had to apply to smaller firms due to less ucas points, it would look better to apply with an AF degree.
Are you going to study ACA after your degree? something I've learnt is first degree doesn't mean anything in terms of pay. Once you get the ACA you'll be gold dust, many opportunities in the city, even more if you can speak other languages like Cantonese or French -

Re: Can you choose something different in clearing?Miss gonnabesomething, you will indeed be something if you keep this up, you know more about it than I do :P If I go into accounting I will indeed study ACA. You are right with degrees; so many people have them its the new minimum for any well paid job. You on facebook? I feel this is a good networking opportunity!(Original post by gonnabesomething)

Sorry I don't use it, quit ages ago because no one posts statuses or anything, it just seemed a bit boring a waste of time because I'd use it, but it wasn't productive
I will PM my email address to you though.
I've researched well, I have a path I'll follow regardless of what uni i go to or however many ucas points i have, 260 is a minimum for ACA training contracts. What year are you graduating in if you don't mind me asking
The accounting and finance careers page gives loads of information about ACA etc

Re: Can you choose something different in clearing? If you wanna be social at uni, you pretty much need to be on facebook, that's where the students union usually posts events etc. Facebook without annoying statuses sounds fantastic....but other people have things to say too :P(Original post by gonnabesomething)

Graduating next year. Scary. -

Good luck with it all, I guess you will be applying this Autumn, use ICAEWs search thing when you come to apply, there will be plenty of contracts up for grabs

So I've missed an obvious question, which uni(s) have you applied to and what is their offer? -
Re: Can you choose something different in clearing?History at Liverpool which is AAA and Modern History with Economics which is ABB at Manchester. Really just want the results now lol.(Original post by dem503)
Sounds like the thing to do
So I've missed an obvious question, which uni(s) have you applied to and what is their offer?
P.S I know History's a bit odd, but first degree doesn't matter as long as it's academic and a 2:1 or above
Hence, if I missed my offers I'd probably choose AF at a lesser uni as it'll make it easier for me when applying for contracts at smaller firms. + it'll be cheaper for them to train me as I'll have exemptions, bigger firms have more money etc. -
Re: Can you choose something different in clearing? Why? I was thinking of physics during clearing. And isn't Leicester a good uni?(Original post by dem503)
In clearing I was very close to accepting a Physics course at Leicester, so glad I didn't accept it.... -
Re: Can you choose something different in clearing?3 A's for history? Dude.... Anyway, when it comes to History (and most of the 'school' subjects eg. sciences, geography etc) Which university doesn't matter too much, unless it is known to be very good at that subject. I would highly recommend going to Manchester though, the only reason I didn't go is because I'm from there and I would have got bored very quickly! It is a fantastic city, almost tailor made for students.(Original post by gonnabesomething)

Yeah you're right about the whole first degree thing, unless you're doing maths in which case you can get whatever you want :P -
Re: Can you choose something different in clearing?Mostly because I really wanted to do maths and I wasn't in all honesty very good at physics. Also since a couple of people I knew went there, they have come back and said it is a dump and the social life is a bit naff because of a fairly poor students union. Might be a minority opinion but I am very happy at York.(Original post by Podcaster)
Why? I was thinking of physics during clearing. And isn't Leicester a good uni? -
On results day not everyone gets their firm or insurance choice grades and unis end up with spare places on some of their courses, you apply through clearing to get in to said courses if they interest you.(Original post by Skilled)
Can someone please help me?, I wanted to know what exactly is clearing, I've heard of it alot.
Thanks in advance
There's loads of info on it on the ucas site and tsr
