What was your favourite AS Level/ A Level and why?
Discussion for A-Level students and for those choosing their A-Level subjects.

What was your favourite AS Level/ A Level and why?
Of course I have some self interest in this topic.
I've got to choose my AS Levels for next year, and I've pretty much decided what I want to do, however I thought it'd be good to know what subjects everyone enjoyed doing, and what subject everyone hated. It would be nice to see if there was a general consensus.
So what the best decision you made over your AS choices?
And what was your worst?
Hopefully, others too, other than me, will find this thread useful.
Thanks. -
Re: What was your favourite AS Level/ A Level and why?
Best - Maths: it was completely different to GCSE, and I was good at it

Worst - Biology: Because **** biology, that's why. My teacher hated me. She told me I was making everyone fail who sat around me so moved me to sit on the back row on my own and referred to the row in front of me as the back row. I also hated the course. -
Re: What was your favourite AS Level/ A Level and why?
Biology was dull, a lot of facts, facts, general information without much learning of method, I hated that, parts of Maths are also very dry.
I had an affinity for chemistry, but I love history, regret dropping it at A Level. I love Irish, German and in particular, Russian History. -
Re: What was your favourite AS Level/ A Level and why?
My favourite has probably been French, very satisfying to learn and suddenly everything I had been blundering through during my GCSE just clicked in year 12 because of the essay-writing and speaking practice.
(Although being in a nice class of seven of us did help!) -

Re: What was your favourite AS Level/ A Level and why?
Best - Law. Despite the fact I made up half the class, with a boy who, shall we say, wasn't exactly committed aha (he didn't even turn up to his last exam
), it was brilliant. =)
I loved it that much I became a mentor in it too for younger years. (:
It's not your average choice at A-Level, or at least not in my school, but I found it really interesting, to the extent it established that I want to practice it for the rest of my life.
I personally took 4 essay-based subjects (History, Psychology, English Language, Law) and loved them all, but I honestly think Law would be just as good alongside 'science-y' subjects such as Maths/Chemistry etc.
Hope this helped!

Re: What was your favourite AS Level/ A Level and why?
I did English lit, biology, chemistry and maths.
My favourite was English lit simply because I absolutely adore reading, whether it's plays, poems or novels and I could spout on about books all day. It was just great to be around other people who like discussing writing and it was a break from the subjects I found harder.
I also loved biology. There are some boring bits (ecology!), but I loved loved loved unit 5.
Chemistry was a challenge, but I really enjoyed the course content.
I struggled with maths and dropped it after AS. I liked the core maths and hated decision. Gotta say, maths frustrated me 'cause I'm not naturally good at it and I had to work hard, but I did enjoy it. -
Re: What was your favourite AS Level/ A Level and why?
Favourite: Media studies. People say it's a soft subject but I don't care, there's a lot of theory and practical work to the subject. I liked the coursework side and making my own 2 minute film opening.
Worst: Psychology. In psychology there's just endless memorising to do and it gets quite boring after a while.. Interesting subject nonetheless. -
Re: What was your favourite AS Level/ A Level and why?I'm not sure what a good marker would be, but by the summer term of year 12 I managed a 15 minute speaking exam with only prepared notes (prepared in 20 mins beforehand) for 2.5 minutes of that, and although I stumbled here and there, I was able to speak knowing what I said was mostly grammatically correct.(Original post by Afootballmug)
How good would you say you've become?
I also became quite confident in writing 200-300 word essays off the cuff with a variety of tenses, vocab etc. with few errors (I hope!).
Going from a class of 32 for three hours/week to a class of 7 for 5 hours/week with more essay practice for homework made it a lot more intense as well.
Somebody told me that by the end of year 13 you can be not far off fluency, but I'm not sure on that. -
Re: What was your favourite AS Level/ A Level and why?
Best: History. Although it was the most difficult of my subjects, and there was so much to cover, the time periods I studied were fascinating, and I loved reading around the subject and different historians' views on the matter.
Worst: English Language. At times I found it interesting (different dialects/accents, Language and Gender) but mostly I just found it...well, dull. It's pretty easy though, so there's that going for it.
