Clearing - Call the clearing hot line or call the department direct.. which?
What have you done / what would you do??
The whole point of a clearing hotline is that it is a clearing hotline, but if you could talk to the department direct that would be better right? But there is the risk of p*****g off people because you call them direct.

    Thoughts?

I spent days trying to get through via the listed number. Somehow got hold of the number for the admissions tutor, two tries and I got through. Got an offer as well. :dontknow:

Do exactly that, it'll be perfectly fine after the clearing line at many uni's once you meet the entry requirements they connect you up with the department who take down your details and give an offer.

You can hold a phone in each hand, yes? Talk to the hot line or the department, whichever answers first.

What if you already have your grades? Can you call the department directly before results come out?

Yes, but there's a good chance they won't know about Clearing places yet because they don't have the A level results.

Having worked on the clearing hotline for Southampton Uni last year I can tell you that all we did was took down some details and checked to see if the applicant had the correct grades for the course. If they didn't have the grades then we would tell them so and suggest they look elsewhere. If they had the grades then we would put them straight through to the relevant person in the department. Don't go ringing the wrong people when the clearing hotline staff will know exactly what to do with your query.

If you have the direct contact numbers for the departments then try them as all the clearing hotline will do is either put you through to them or speak to them on your behalf. It will save a lot of time and with clearing it's pretty much first come first served, you need all the time you can get.

Depends where accepts you? If I totally flop and need clearing so badly only the places I really didn't want to go will take me, I'll take a year out and resit the troublesome exams

To be fair there's quite a lot of spaces in clearing even at many Russell group uni's this year, I recall Manchester/Birmingham saying it's likely for law, etc to show up.
And it's more likely to take AAB students I think

Yeah Russell group unis tend to only take AAB students. Don't worry be optimistic for results day
