Small spots lok like they have bruised into my skin- Meningitis symptom?
    Hello,

I would firstly like to inform you that I am not one to overreact, hence why I am posting here to ask the opinions of others as to whether or not I should to A&E- due to the late hour of the night.

I took my boots of around 10pm and I noticed that I have small red/purple spots that aren't bumpy and can only be described as 'bruise like' I checked the symptoms online and I did the glass test, these spots are still visible.

I have the symptoms of meningitis that are sensitivity to light, my appetite has practically gone in the last 5 days and I have been feeling sick quite a lot, and also I have been having bad headaches.

What would you do if this had happened to you, and does it sound like anything else that's not serious?

If you are worried you should ring nhs direct who have medical knowedge to be able to advise better than a student forum.

Meningitis hotline closes after 11pm, I tried to ring it at 11:45 & they re-open at 9am.

Should have added that in perhaps.

You have all the symptoms so I certainly wouldn't risk it- meningitis is a heartless monster!

Are you alone? Do you have a fever?

ETA: Since you haven't responded, I'm assuming you've asked for help IRL. Fingers crossed that everything is okay.

OP, don't take chances. If you fail the common glass test, then I would go to A&E as soon as possible.

    Yes, go to A&E.

Don't panic, but it's always better to go with something like this. They WONT think you're silly for coming. They will be glad, and think you're smart, whether there turns out to be anything wrong or not.

    Hope it's all fine!

In you haven't done it already, ring NHS direct/go to A&E. I'm not saying you have meningitis (and I wouldn't be qualified to anyway), but you shouldn't take any chances on this. If there is someone in the house (or wherever you are) with you, tell them.

Anyway, try not to panic. It might be (and hopefully is) nothing.

Thanks to everyone here that has taken me seriously, I phoned NHS direct, they sent an ambulance because they didn't like the sounds of my symptoms, the ambulance men were really nice and pleasant and certainly didn't think it was stupid of me to call( even though I was embarrassed) I spent the night in hospital, very scary experience and I'm bruised from where they couldn't take blood for blood tests, but luckily I have been diagnosed with a nasty viral infection rather than Meningitis.

    Thanks again. x
