    Clearing help please!
    Hey,

It seems that we can only add our clearing choices if we already know that the university may consider us and are aware? Does this mean that I am going to have to call the uni up and apply over the phone, then on 7th august clearing starts. In the clearing period, only then can I put them as a clearing choice? sorry if i didnt make sense, im nervous and over thinking!

    thanks!!!!!!!

Yeah.... you have to phone up the uni and talk to them
they will offer you a conditional place on the phone.

You then need to apply via track and they will accept you on there.
It took my uni about 5 days to accept me on track though

Clearing doesn't open fully untill results day when everything's organised as in the places for the courses which are avaliable after working out who has made their offers and those who haven't as they get results a few days or so before the actual results day.
It's possible to get a place before then if you already know your grades.
If you do know your grades call them up they maybe willing to take down your details for results day.

You need to know your results to get in touch with them. If you're an A-level student - you won't know this until the 16th

No worries, I went through clearing so it's always nice to know that someone's been through the same thing!
Clearing won't officially open until the 16th August. Have you already got your results? If so and you know you've missed your firm and insurance, you CAN call them up now, but, it may be they'll just tell you to call back up on A-Level results day.
As a guideline for what happened to me - I called up the hotline and they asked me what grades I had - some uni's then immediately told me, I wouldn't be successful so that was the end of the conversation. The four places that I was successful then put me through to the department I wanted to study in. They asked me a few questions like how I was feeling, whether or not I had any questions about their course. And then I asked them about things like accommodation for clearing students, how their course was structured, how much freedom there was in choosing modules.
That day - track reopens and allows you to enter ONE clearing choice so you need to choose the one you want to go to.

It took about 5 days for my track to get updated, but, I had called them up and they'd sent me the offer through the post.

Ok, I dont know my results yet cos im gonna get them on the 16th, so this means that no that day I have to call them up straight away on the hotline and tell them my clearing number, speak to them about my results and blah blah, if they consider me, that is when I put them as a clearing choice? After I have done that I wait to see if my clearing has been accepted or not. OR do I just call them up and see if they accept me or not on the phone on that day, and if they accept me I don't need to put them as a clearing choice and dont need to use track at all? LOL I am a roll of confusion. thanks for the help people! oh yeah do I just call the one I really wanna go to or a few other uni's too, I am the first person in my fam to go Uni so that's why I don't have any idea, I have no one with me to help me that's why I'm askin so many questions, sorry!

Four places? So you can verbally accept one or more places but only put one down on track (obviously they have deadlines). Am I correct in what you're trying to say?

Also, do you have to read your results out to them? (or can they see our results on computer?) And do you have to have your GCSE results ready, too?

That is pretty much it yes

    Good Luck with it

Do you have a few universities that you are keen on
Have you read up on the courses

They will still want to know why them

It may be worth preparing some basic personal statement(s) that you could email if required

    Make a list of
    • Why you want to do the course
    • Why that university
    • Why the late appication
    • Your GCSE grades
    • Any work experience
    • Any volunteering experience that would be relevant

It might also be useful to ask a teacher if they could prepare a simple reference

You may not need all of the above but they could be handy

Oh and ... your GCSE certificates ... if you can scan them in so that they can be emailed that might be useful

Yep I found out a lot earlier that I was in clearing than I got my results. I used that time to cry a bit and get my act together and shortlist places I would go.
They will give you an 'informal offer' over the phone so when they do that - you add them on track. As i've said before though, it took them quite a while to accept me on track so don't panic if it hasn't been updated in a while! You will NEED to do it via UCAS after speaking to them.
Call up as many as you want

You don't 'accept' the informal offer... when you add it on track that's you accepting it. But, you're allowed to phone as many uni's as you want, you're just only allowed to add one choice. I read out my results to them and they didn't ask for my GCSE results...
some unis found out my results via my clearing number but remember that computer systems will always fail ha

Call them up, tell them you haven't applied because you only recently decided you wanted to go to uni and then tell them your results
