How Much Money Will You Be Living On Per Week At Uni???
I'm completely new to budgeting / anything to do with my own finances so excuse my ignorance but I was just wondering what the average student lives on per week in Uni??
Thankfully my parents are paying for my accomodation and said they would make sure I have £100 a week to spend on food & toiletries / drink and any other 'luxuries' (except clothes)
They told me I would need to budget well on this amount and that if I needed any more money (implying that i probably will) I will have to get a part time job....
Just wondering.. is 100 a week an average amount for a student in Uni?
How much will you have to spend per week at Uni?? -
Re: How Much Money Will You Be Living On Per Week At Uni???
Er.. well considering I've moved out of halls into my house now, which is about £150 cheaper per month to live in come October when I'm back at Uni for second year I'll have... £140 a week?
I have a job as well which I'll be reducing from full-time to part-time come Uni, but that will probably provide another £100-£120 a week.
I save most of it though. As a student I've never had as much money as I do now, which is kind of ironic. -
Re: How Much Money Will You Be Living On Per Week At Uni???
£100 a week is plenty, I'll have around £53 pounds per week (after accomodaton) from my loan & parents. I went to a different uni last year and based on what I spent this'll be fine.
I reckon food should be no more then £20 a week, usually a bit less. No more then £10 a week on pre drinks, it's going out that you've gotta watch. If you go somehwhere with free entry, offers on shots or whatever and pre drink properlly you can easily do it for less then £10 a night including taxi share. Then theres transport, buses are around £2 each way where I'm going, but I reckon I'll only use them 2 times a week most weeks. If no cheap supermarket is nearby then order your food shopping online, your weekly food + predrinks should be over the min delivery limit, if not then order jointly with a flatmate.
Saying this, I wont be buying many if any clothes with this money. Also my parents will pay for my transport home & back and some of my core textbooks. I am planning to get a job though, not just to help with uni costs but hopefully to fund some travelling after I've finished

Re: How Much Money Will You Be Living On Per Week At Uni???
work out, what you've got and what you NEED to spend it on!
Barclays have a budget sheet that you can print off, its always a good idea to budget, then you know where your money is going!
Part time jobs are always good, its extra cash to go out with!

Re: How Much Money Will You Be Living On Per Week At Uni???
Thanks to student finance and parents income i have 0 getting reaccessed and hopefully it will pay for accomodation if not i start on -£900 parents said they will give me food everytime they see me and more toiletries etc so weekly shopping will hopefully only be £20ish or less and i just really hope I can get a job transfer to pay for everything but luckily i've had a good job for two years and have managed to save quite a bit and it should work out as about £40 a week and if i do get a job probably around £80+ hopefully

Re: How Much Money Will You Be Living On Per Week At Uni???
I get about £55 a week through my loan so unless I get a job that'll have to be what I live on (luckily there's a Lidl near my accomodation!). I would have more but my parents have decided that they want me to pay them while I stay with them during the holidays

Re: How Much Money Will You Be Living On Per Week At Uni???
I've worked it out to be £51 pounds a week, this is after accommodation. I think my parents would give me £15-25 pounds a week, and i plan to get a job whilst at uni, so i should be living fairly well.
also for the third term i get like more finance, but theres less weeks? so theres around £103 pounds per week, so ill be saving that for summer

Re: How Much Money Will You Be Living On Per Week At Uni???Ah you'd be surprised, just the costs of hanging out with friends over summer can cost a fair bit(Original post by eemooz)

Re: How Much Money Will You Be Living On Per Week At Uni???
I'm surprised so many of you worry you'll live on as much as you have. You're one person, just be careful.
I have just under £30 a week to live on and as long as I don't waste it I don't expect to struggle. I've lived on less before now and that was shared between three people. -
Re: How Much Money Will You Be Living On Per Week At Uni???Yes, I'm going into my second year at York. You will do fine on £50 - £60 - a job will allow you some extra luxuries, but you'll manage without one(Original post by eemooz)
