    School have our results!
Just watched the news and heard that our schools and the universities we applied to have our results a week before we do!

Fair enough I can see why universities would probably need an extra week to figure out whether to give those with conditional offers unconditionals or rejections.

However why does our school get to know our results a whole week before us? If anyone could explain the benefit to the school?

Mine said that it is so they have time to sort out the system for giving them back, put in place people to help those who haven't got their grades and so forth, I don't know about your sixth form/college/school but mine has a lot of anxious kids on results day that don't listen to the instructions from the staff, so they like to be as well prepared as possible!

Edit: Whats with the neg? Don't like being put in the same boat as unruly teens?

If they're going to send them to centres like unis, they may as well send them to schools too. I guess it gives them time to submit appeals, especially emergency appeals which are needed for university entrance.

Does that mean that if you have a parent etc that works at the school, they could find out for you? Or if the school new that it could happen, they'd make sure that that staff member didn't have access to them? But then, what if they're the exams officer or something?? :holmes:

Well some schools might have only a limited number of people being able to see them this early on, or it will only be the relevant teachers that will see them. Although if a staff member found out a result and told someone and were found out they would be majorly disciplined, so if you have a parent working in your school, I wouldn't ask them to get your results or they'll end up jobless

My dad is a lecturer at a college and he went in to get the initial bandings of his students this morning as the college got them today (Friday 3rd.) I would be guessing that its the same for schools but they are not allowed to tell students what they got until the 7th so go figure

I am a teacher and many of us will travel to school on the 7th to check the results. As far as I know the Higher and Advanced Higher results may be at the school earlier than the 7th so that the depute with responsibility for SQA matters can see them. Teachers don't see the results till the same day as students.

It'd be more than your jobs worth to give students access to their exam results before they were supposed to be published. Most teachers will only know the results when they get access to them on 7th (normally a wee bit in advance of students so that they know who they need to check up on/help out) as there's no need for them to know before then. It's the same as A level results.

Universities have the results now so that they can process decisions before UCAS release track again on Tuesday. During this period the universities make decisions on all of their candidates meaning they decide in advance whether someone who has missed their offer still has a place. The only reason confirmation should be delayed on Tuesday is if the university has been slow to add the decisions onto UCAS, it shouldn't be because there are still decisions to make.

Why does it matter if schools get them first? I couldn't care less who gets my results first, it won't change them. I won't get my results until I come home from work tomorrow night, and I can't say I'm bothered about that.

My physics teacher told us that schools got them a day early so they have time to ready appeals. But from reading the comments it seems to vary.
