    International Relations
    Hey,

Unfortunately, I didn´t find a thread, which answered my questions.

I´m from Mannheim, Germany. I did my Abitur this summer and I intend to apply for the undergraduate course of International Relations in St. Andrews in 2013.

From September I am going to do a voluntary service at the United States Holocaust Memorial in Washington D.C. for one year. I hope the gap-year will improve my chances.

As the Scottish marking system differs from the German system, I would like to know, whether I meet the requirements for International Relations.

My average mark of the Abitur is 1.3.

Do you think it would be possible that I would receive an offer? Is there any university in Scotland, which has lower requirements but comparable reputations in Politics or IR?

    Thanks a lot!

    Regards,
    Tiro

All the information is stated here,http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/admissions/Admissionsmap/

From what I know International Relations is the most reputated subject at St.Andrews and changes are high that you can get a rejection. And they look more than grades so If you did a lot of ec activities and write a good personal statement maybe things can change. You can do a foundation year If you really want to get into St.Andrews,It means one more year so think it carefully.I am ready to give a year and I'll be applying to foundation year so

Edinburgh,Durham is the unit that you can apply imo

It is my understanding that standardized test scores are more important than "soft" criteria.

I dont remember the exact thing that said but everybody can get the best grades If they study. They look to your potential, your will, what you did and didnt. And International Relations is one of the reputable and competitive subject in St.Andrews.So think your application as a total, grades,ec activities and personal statement. They look for the best but that does not mean to not apply because you dont really know what your chances are.

my conditional offer for IR was a GPA of 1.2, but with strong extracurriculars you should still have a chance. it goes without saying that your personal statement will have an enormous impact on the outcome of your application as well. Good luck!
