Re: General Cycling ThreadSo our golds are theirs as well, I don't think so...(Original post by Roobsa)
Australia are part of the commonwealth, therefore Meares' gold medal is actually our gold medal.
That's my logic and I'm sticking with it.

Re: General Cycling Thread
The past 8 or 9 pages from today made for entertaining reading! I was jumping for joy at Trott and Hoy. Feel rather annoyed at the commissaire for that iffy call
But Pendleton was on the podium and in my mind is still better than Meares.
To think without a couple of mistakes/iffy judging calls we could have had a complete whitewash in the velodrome!
That has been my logic for the whole games, shame they haven't won much though(Original post by Roobsa)

Re: General Cycling ThreadMen's team pursuit for me.(Original post by Roobsa)
What's everyone's favourite medal moments from the track then?
For me it has to be Jason Kenny beating Bauge. After the world champs it just set up the perfect head-to-head and for King Kenny to beat the world champion on home ground just makes it all the more special. -
Re: General Cycling ThreadSo many moments to pick from. That last race from Hoy to just hold off for the win, Trott in the eliminator repeatedly at the back but coming through to win, Womens team pursuit breaking WR after WR, Pendleton's gold medal, and not forgetting the dude on the bike leading all the keirrin races and not getting tired(Original post by Roobsa)

I'd love to have a go on the Red Bull Mini Drome!! http://www.redbull.co.uk/cs/Satellit...21242923679584Last edited by dhr90; 07-08-2012 at 21:02. -
Re: General Cycling ThreadKenny- as you said.(Original post by Roobsa)

Hoy- his 5th and 6th golds, incredible.
Trott- her two golds.
I don't have the problem really with Pendleton getting punished if it was against the rules but what gets me angry is as you said, there were other events and as far as I'm aware (not seen some of the morning sessions so can't be 100% sure) only 3 were punished, Varnish/Pendleton, Pendleton and then the Chinese women's persuit(?). I've seen others go out of the sprinting lane and nothing was done about them.(Original post by siani-chan)
I understand that she came out of the lane, but the problem I have is that other people have been breaking this rule all week, and the commissaires have been really inconsistent with their decisions. Others have come out of the line far more but they haven't penalised them for it.

Re: General Cycling ThreadI can only think that they only impose a penalty if they think they disrupted the other rider.(Original post by SirMasterKey)

Just saw this on twitter : What's an Australians least favourite TV channel? UK Gold.

Re: General Cycling ThreadIt probably is like this, but this is not the rule, they have punished people before for coming out of the line a tiny amount without impeding the other rider. Hence why I am fedup with the inconsistencies.(Original post by dhr90)

I think I'm going to stick to watching road racing as much as possible tbh, this rule is never going to go away and the commissaires are never going be completely consistent with it. That and there's Jens Voigt, and his classic quotes.. "I get paid to hurt other people, how good is that?"
That joke is terrible. XD -

Jens Voigt is a God amongst men. Simple as that.

Re: General Cycling Thread
Does anyone know what the current world record is for the first lap of the men's team sprint? If they record it that is. I know that Philip Hindes and Gregory Bauge consistently post times of 17.2, with Hindes being slightly faster, but has anyone ever gone quicker than that?
Edit: I was just watching the bronze medal clash between Germany and Australia and Rene Enders posted a 17.136, so I guess that answers my question.
I think it was Jamie Staff who said he reckons Philip Hindes will be going under 17 seconds at the next Olympics though.
