Can i go into clearing if i have met my insurance?
Hi all, just need to some clarification after reading the results and clearing guides,

If i miss my firm but meet my insurance, can i still go into clearing to do something else , or possibly the insurance course at a different uni if its there, or a different course, tbh i dont really want to go to my insurance university at all, its just there as my insurance :P

rather look around in clearing and if i find something better for me there then id rather go there.

my insurance is for biomedical science but id prefer to do pharmacology if its in clearing, wondering how it works,

please quote me in ur reply!

    thanks

You can't use Clearing while you have your insurance choice. If your insurance choice has changed to unconditional because you've met the offer conditions, you aren't in Clearing and won't have a Clearing number, so universities won't be able to see your application.

You can ask to be released from your insurance choice which would put you into Clearing, however this can take a few days for the university to do. If you're sure you don't want to go to your insurance choice then you should contact them as soon as possible asking them to reject you, that way you won't have an insurance choice any more and if you miss your firm choice you'll be straight into Clearing so there's no delay on results day.

If you miss your firm choice, but meet your insurance then you are oblidged to go to that university (this is when you're offer becomes unconditional)

If you wish to enter clearing then you will need to contact your insurance university directly to ask them to withdraw you from the course, so that on UCAS track that choice appears as unsuccessful.
You will then be able to enter clearing and try to gain a place on another course.

PLEASE NOTE that by doing so you are NOT guaranteed to get an offer, and you may miss out on a place at university for 2012 entry.

    Make sense?

You can see what's in clearing first from the clearing lists, but you won't be able to phone up the university and ask if they will take you on because you will need your clearing number which will only appear on track when you've officially entered clearing

It's a gamble, but you can always apply for 2013 entry in september onwards if you aren't sure you want to go to your insurance choice, and use that time to think about what you want to study and where

i was thinking if i get higher grades required than the entry for the insurance then id defo go into clearing , insurance wants CCC, so if i get BBB id defo go into clearing and reject my insurance but im unsure whether to do the same if i end up with BBC OR BCC. (my firm required ABB)

Well you've still got plenty of time to think about it, as least you're planning ahead. You could still get ABB for all we know at the moment :yy:

That kind of thing is a decision only you can make, so not much I can do to help :nah:

Good luck, and if you need more advice on results day then I'll be around, as will my colleagues

You can also talk to a possible alternative and explain your situation. They may well be prepared to hold a place for you for a couple of days while you arrange to get released from your insurance place. We used to do that when I was involved in admissions
