    Low maintenance loan.. HELP?!
So.. last year i got £1700 per term for my first year of uni..
now going into the second year my money has dropped to £1400 (due to my parents income) per term & i am no longer in contact with my parents & am living with my grandmother (widowed)

My uni rent is £1200-£1250 with bills included so that means i have approx £200 to live on for three months 16-30p a week!? aha
. I took up a part time job to support myself through the summer & save up.. but the money I'm making is only covering the stuff i need to get for my student house! but i can be taken from my position at any time as i am only a temporary contract/ part time worker.

I have been through almost everything! i can't say i am estranged because i;ve only been 100% not living or supported by my parents for 3-4 months and the minimum is one year to be classed as "estranged"

Basically I'm wondering if anything could be done to get my maintenance loan higher? i don't have a grant either as my parents income was above the level of it.

BUT with not associating/no contact with my parents & living with my gran for 3 mnths and supporting myself for 1.5 years is there anything that could be done?

It's easy enough to say 'Get a job when my temp contract is up" but we all know jobs aren;t a guarantee, especially when you only have a weekend to juggle with. (most employers want flexible employees) :/

    Totally stuck.

    Thanks x

What stuff do you need to get for your student house? I've furnished a whole flat by myself for less than £500 (probs much less but I cba to add it up). And my flat only came with a cooker whereas your student flat probably comes with appliances etc

I know it isn't what you want to hear, but as far as I'm aware jobs and overdrafts are your only options.
What are you buying for your house that takes a whole summer's wages?

Its not a whole summers wages for just flat stuff aha
My wording wasn't the best up there ah

I'm paying for everything myself out of my wages for now (only 16 hours a week) Thats my phone bill + food & petrol. & whatever i manage to save which sometime is only a couple of pounds I'm slowly getting the stuff i need for the student house (kitchen ware basics) bedding, duvets and pillows etc etc etc x

Also I think your maths is out... £200 over three months (approx 12 weeks) is sixteen POUNDS a week, not pence. I know it's not a lot, but still.

    As long as you know

But there's really nothing you can do apart from use your overdraft until you find a job, as far as I'm aware. If you really struggle your uni will have hardship funds.
