    uncontrollable mixed race hair
    Hi,
    im mixed race (white/black caribbean) and my hair is so hard to style or do much with it, i normally have it really short or let it grow into some sort of deformed afro.

    i want to do something different with it... im thinking short around the sides and back and long on top.. sort of like louis smith (GB gymnastics) but not as extreme

    My hair took years to get under control.

    Steps i took;

    wash it out under hot water every day
    comb it out while blowdrying
    apply some hair oil (non clumpy spray on) when it's dry
    comb out some more

    This will loosen up the hair and make it more puffy. However the shape can still be odd. For this you need a really good barber to trim the afro all over into a neat even shape. Unfortunately many barbers tend to take "haircut" to mean "shine my head"
    After all this the only issues are deflating and drying out throughout the day and *******s who touch you on the head and **** up the afro shape you spend half an hour on :mad:

    Me back in year 11 with wild clumpy uncut hair:

    Me last year with an afro under control:

    I had the same problem and actually wanted to do the same type of hairstyle...but I'm fairly sure you need to relax your hair.
    I now have the kind of floppy afro thing going on, but its ok. I only wash it every 3 days as after the first sleep it finds some shape, and I only comb it when its being washed.
    Find what's best for you, but remember, it does take a fair while to grow back to normal

    I'm mixed race too and I use "noodle head" which is a creme for the hair that I put after washing. It seems to really work and keeps my hair curly. Aleisha keys/Leona lewis style.
