What is your definition of a racist?
I Googled the definition for it and it gave me this:

"a person with a prejudiced belief that one race is superior to others".

It seems to me that the word "racist" is just given to anybody who criticises:

    *Another country's government
    *Another country's culture
*Any individual(s) who happen to be of a different race
    *Non-EU immigration
*Members of a religion which will go nameless
*Crime when caused by a certain race which will go nameless
*Honour killings etc. caused by a certain race which will go nameless

For all of the above, anyone that criticises those things are not racist.

I stick with the Google definition of what a racist is, but now it seems people just call anyone a racist that talks of anything that is politically incorrect. Even when it has nothing to do with race.

    Your opinions?

What if he just thought certain things about other races but you wouldn't know otherwise?

How often does this actually happen though? 'Playing the race card' does happen, yes... however the 'PC brigade' cop-out is becoming increasingly common too...

I just think the term 'racism' is now used in a broader way, to include not only race but other cultures and countries...

If he thinks certain things about other races but doesn't let it make him treat them differently I'd say he is prejudiced (most people are to a degree, on most things) but not racist.

Surprisingly more often than it should occur. Think Starkey v Penny.

That's xenophobia but yeah I see what you mean.

Racism = the belief that a race possesses certain traits/charecteristics or are superior or inferior to another race and hatred or prejudice based on those beliefs. That's what the dictionary says ain't it? I'd say it's pretty accurate.

Someone who discriminates against someone else based on their nationality or ethnicity. NOT RELIGION!

Inb4 only white people can be racist.

It's also not a definition, it's an example, which isn't an example :giggle:

Hitler was concerned with "racial purity". If you seriously want to argue this isn't racist, be my guest.

The OP is right - there is a real misuse and misappropriation of the word 'racist' in today's society. It stems from the left but affects all levels of society to some extent.

It's frankly shocking how anything that is in any way remotely disapproving of foreign ways is slapped with the label.

Ideas of race were different then. Jews were not merely a religious identity but a cultural group that contained some sort of Semitic 'race'.

He never concentrated on removing racial 'impurity' due to the presence of blacks because there simply weren't any (although I'm sure that the few around at the time didn't meet a good fate).

"The number of black people in Germany when the Nazis came to power is variously estimated at 5,000–25,000."

Well pardon me for exaggerating then - although I find it hard to imagine Hitler rallying the German people against the common enemy of 'black people' when their numbers and presence most definitely pale in comparison to that of Jews (nearly all Germans will have never seen a black man or woman in their lives, and certainly not in person). The Jew had always existed as a scapegoat for problems in society and was simply brought up again.
