Re: What is your definition of a racist?Seems to me like you don't really care to address the issue of racist police behavior. I'll spell it out for you shall I? If a black man gets beaten up by the police, whilst having racist abuse shouted in his face (this happens, a lot), he is not going to trust and respect the police force is he? But the BPA may help him to do that, since may feel like he can trust this section of the police (since they're black!, and that they might not, you know, be racist towards him. What the hell is wrong with this. And If you can find faults with it, what would you suggest the police do to stop the huge amount of institutional racism within itself? If indeed you give toss.(Original post by Scumbaggio)
The part in bold is a figment of your imagination.
First of all blacks are not a homogenous group.
Secondly the idea of a cohesive black community working to make the world better for all black people is completely laughable.
I'm not gonna get into an argument over the meaning of "black community", since it would just be missing the bloody point. -
Re: What is your definition of a racist?I'm really not bothered about police racism, the police are not exactly perfect in every other area are they? The police tend to treat anyone badly if they know they can get away with it.(Original post by MrFlash1994)

The police still rape and assault people in their custody, until this stops I DO NOT CARE if the police say a few naughty WORDS to someone.
Where has this idea come from that being racist is the most morally repugnant trait to have? Admittedly it's unpleasant but I think a lot of people need to put things in perspective.
What happened to Ian Tomlinson is far worse than any number of words that an individual deems offensive.
I don't trust the police, I don't see how your post actually even links to mine. -
Re: What is your definition of a racist?Wow. I respect your honesty and openess but that's about it. The police aren't exactly perfect, I think that's the euphemism of the year. But I mean why should you care about racism anyway? I presume you're white so correct me If I'm wrong but racism will barely affect your life. So I'm actually gonna stop appealing to your moral values and just say that we live in the 21st century, and racist behaviour must not be tolerated any longer. If the virtually all-white police can't sort it out, then a Black Police Association (and possibly an Asian one) must be established to do so. Otherwise the problems will persist, and whilst it won't affect you, the victims of this discrimination will not stand for it any longer. They will fight back.(Original post by Scumbaggio)

Re: What is your definition of a racist?I don't believe religion falls under racism. I mean, religion isn't tied to race. There are Christians, Muslims etc all over the world.(Original post by aliyah.k)
A racist person is some one who is against someones creed, colour of skin, religion, and makes aloha toons and rude comments about it too. It is not fair as it could often people cause feuds, or make people/young people hurt damage themselves.

That's not to say that religious intolerance isn't nasty, or that it can't cause a whole load of trouble. And there is a certain tendency amongst some people to believe that if someone looks as though they could be from the "Greater Middle East", they must therefore be a Muslim and must therefore be against Western culture, which is indeed a racist and very silly mindset.
On the whole, though, I do think that it's a seperate issue. -
Re: What is your definition of a racist? All discrimination is wrong. It is a complete joke to think that the only discrimination worth bleating about is that of a racial nature.(Original post by MrFlash1994)

Bigoted yes, racist no.(Original post by aliyah.k)
Okay true but it is unfair when people think all muslims are terrorists. That's religion and may be racist and or offensive

How is paki not racist? It's a Pakistani not Paki it offends them somehow :s(Original post by ellasmith)
Someone who acts or does something intentionally spiteful towards someone just because of their race.
I wouldnt define someone colloquially saying 'pakky' a racist.

In this world, you're allowed to criticise and even hate people for the things they choose to do, but the things they have no choice over, those you don't get to be prejudiced about. -

Tripe.
But your reasoned, thought out debate has sent my position crumbling and I have no option but to revise my own personal philosophy in the light of your intellectual brilliance.
