Re: BBC don't give up their socialist agendaYou can prove anything with facts!(Original post by billydisco)
Some things evidence doesn't exist/get collected. Plus if you look hard enough you can find statistical evidence to prove anything- which makes statistical evidence completely pointless.
You utter clown.

Re: BBC don't give up their socialist agendaIt's only a fact because private schools give out so many scholarships to top promising athletes to put them in their sports teams.(Original post by Kibalchich)
How is reporting the facts "socialist"?

Re: BBC don't give up their socialist agendaThey have an equal opportunity- athletics clubs are usually free!(Original post by Sean9001)
I'd rather be the rock bottom of everything, and give young athletes the chance to perform irrespective of whether their parents own mortgages, shares and can afford a private education.
Note: we wouldn't be the rock bottom of everything. Sporting promise isn't the reserve of those who go to private schools. The ability to spot, and initiative to develop it seems to be.
If on a level playing field, private school pupils are the best athletes, select them for the squads. Don't give state school pupils a leg up. Just give them an equal opportunity. -
Re: BBC don't give up their socialist agendaOf course not- I often wish there weren't so many useless and dumb people but somebody's gotta be in the lower class right??? Who else would watch big brother, x factor, eastenders, borrow on credit cards and watch TOWIE???(Original post by wilko1991)
Are you proud to live in an unequal society? -

Re: BBC don't give up their socialist agenda
I think we have to assume that raw athletic talent must be equally distributed amongst the classes. Therefore those with the potential to become Olympic champions are equally likely to go to a state school or a private school, and the proportion of privately educated Olympic champions should be roughly comparable to that of the general population, i.e. less than 10%. It's not raw talent that's lacking, it's the identification, support, coaching, training, facilities etc. etc. which are unfortunately not nearly as good in the state sector. Not to mention that most state-educated people don't have the option to try olympic sports like equestrian or rowing. It's got nothing to do with a 'competitive environment'.
In the end, it all comes down to money. It's not fair or just that if two people had the same raw talent, work ethic and determination, the one whose parents were most able to nurture this - mostly financially - would be more likely to succeed. That's why it's in the news. -
Re: BBC don't give up their socialist agendaThe BBC are socialist?!(Original post by billydisco)
They'll never give up will they? Time to do something about the BBC!

Anyone else fed up of the Bolshevik Broadcasting Corporation?
Have they stopped glorifying the monarch and started opposing the war? -
Re: BBC don't give up their socialist agendaThanks for putting us all straight. For years I've been under the misapprehension that they were more likely to excel because Daddy could afford to buy them a horse / yacht / whatever.(Original post by billydisco)
Its obvious that private school pupils succeed at anything more than state pupils (less so Grammars) because they thrive in a competitive environment! -
Re: BBC don't give up their socialist agendaYou do realise its a well known fact the BBC are a very left-wing organisation?(Original post by unclej)
The BBC are socialist?!

What did you expect them to do, not report on the monarchy? Just because they broadcast it doesn't mean they aren't left wing! -
Re: BBC don't give up their socialist agendaSo what does "Daddy" buy the swimmer? A pair of new arms?(Original post by Pastaferian)

Re: BBC don't give up their socialist agendaIt is a well known daily mail opinion. Far from a fact.(Original post by billydisco)

I said glorify the monarch which they do and is certainly not left wing.
