Do i have gum disease

    Do i have gum disease
    My bottom gums always hurt when i brush them but dont really bleed that often. This is a pic of my gums: http://www.flickr.com/photos/84213476@N03/7709808712/

    Also i get loads of plaque near the gumline and no matter how much i brush it doesnt go away. How can i get rid of this?

    They don't look too bad. Try brushing the gums separately to the teeth. Pull your bottom lip down with one hand and with your toothbrush, angle the brush down towards the gum. It'll bleed at first - but, it's a really effective way of getting good healthy gums.
    For the plaque - flossing is the only thing really. You can also buy these dye tablets which attach themselves to the plaque... it takes AGES to clean it, but, you know you've got all of it!

    Yeah i do brush them separately but it hurts alot only the bottom ones for some reason. And thanks for the advice about plaque.

    Ah okay, only other thing you can do really is see your dentist about it. Any pain in the gum area isn't good! Good luck!

    Hi your gums shouldn't hurt at all and shouldn't bleed at all unless you've actually scratched them or something. Your dentist will probably just tell you to keep brushing your gums until they never bleed and it doesn't hurt to brush them anymore. You should be brushing your gums everyday (don't be too vigorous with them though as that can cause more damage). I don't think it's really anything to worry about. As for getting rid of the plaque build up, just get a scaling from the dentist.
