Genuinely tried everything, such bad acne.
I am at my wits end, I've had pretty bad acne for ages now. I've tried every product going from freederm to toothpaste. It's tiring me out trying to get rid of it cause it's just so bad, the rest of my face is fine it's just my chin area, it's actually terrible.

It gets me so upset that it's so bad. I'm gonna give my face a break cause all the chemicals might just be making it worse so I'll leave it for a bit BUT I'm tempted to go to the doctors n see if they can give me something.

But does anyone else have any recommendations on what I can do to get rid of them?

Go to the doctors. They'll be able to refer you to a dermotologist who'll be able to give you the good medications which you can't get off you're GP.

Alternatively i have heard of treatments like micro dermabrasion which apparently help with acne.

I have to agree with JammyChoos, my friend went to the Doctor and he had pretty bad acne but it cleared up with the medicine they gave him. Also I have heard sweat rooms and saunas are good for clearing your skin.

I used to have pretty bad acne and it's definitely worth going to the doctor's, they do have a lot of creams and pills and things that can help (although I had very mixed results in my case). However, it is worth bearing in mind that the things they give you are likely to have lots of side effects (dry skin, lips, eyes with most, also aches, depression, weakness, fatigue with stronger ones). Also, once you stop taking them, your acne may return. This is what I found when I used them.

I use this 'regimen' which I found during one of my many, many google searches about 'curing' acne:

    http://www.acne.org/regimen.html

I don't want to look like I'm advertising it, but it does actually really work, and I was kind of encouraged by the fact the 'regimen' doesn't require you to buy any products from the site (so they haven't actually made any money from me ). The products I use for it are:

Cleanser: Simple Facial Wash Gel (from Boots/Superdrug)
Benzyl Peroxide Treatment: PanOxyl 2.5 Aquagel (ordered from Amazon)
Moisturiser: Simple hydrating light moisturiser (from Boots/Superdrug)

BUT this is what I'd recommend:

    - Go to the doctor and try their treatments before trying anything else. If you can get free treatment, I don't see why you shouldn't try it. Also, you say you've only got acne on your chin, so it might go away quicker then it would by using the 'regimen'. HOWEVER, make sure you are fully aware of the side effects, as there will be with any medication.

    - If you're not getting anything from the free, doctor's stuff (but make sure you give it, like, a month), try the thing above. But bear in mind this will also take a long time to work, and will be more expensive then getting treatment through the NHS (or your equivalent). It also will take up more of your time each day then swallowing a pill.

    - You might get a lot of advice (sometimes contradictory) about different foods or non-medical things (like saunas, sorry Swanbow!) and its effect on your acne. I'd mostly ignore this, as very little of this has been proved through actual scientific studies. Just make sure you're doing all the obvious things (balanced diet, exercise sometimes, don't be too stressed).

All in all, remember that any treatment you do will take time to work and that any treatment will only ever prevent acne rather than curing it for good. Feel free to message me if you have any questions.

I just started up 'the regimen' again ^^ And I have to say, it does work. So if you haven't tried that, I would definitely have a go.
My skin has cleared up and I just have a few spots now - though my skin still isn't amazing.

That said, I think you should definitely see a doctor. You may be able to get medication that'll fix it.

I've heard acne on the chin is caused by hormones? But that might be a load of mumbo jumbo >.<

See a doctor, I had mild acne when I was younger and my doc gave me some medicine and it cleared up completely

Go to your doctors if you haven't already. They will definitely give you something - I've had various treatments from gels to antibiotics and they do work. I was on tetracycline (I think that's what it's called) for about 2 years and it completely cleared up my skin, and then they told me I had to come off it but by then I guess I'd grown out of acne anyway. Also, if you're a girl consider the pill - Yaz apparently is very good for controlling acne..

I don't know about acne specifically but I used to have quite a few spots and I tried quite a few things and nothing cleared it up and then I started to drink a **** load of water and it went after a few weeks, so give that a go at the least.

Re: Genuinely tried everything, such bad acne.
I used to have really really bad acne all over my back, chest, arms, and face. It used to be terrible and it would come as huge lumps and my face would look swollen and horrible. I still have acne but fortunately it has died down a lot and i just have the scarring left behind and get the odd few spots every week or so.

I tried Minocycline at first from my GP which didn't work then I got Isotretinoin from the hospital which was really strong stuff! It blocks up your sweat glands and basically dries your skin up completely. It has a lot of side effects though such as altering your cholesterol levels (so you have to have a regular blood test) and also gave me bad joint ache when i used to play sports or exercise . But it was really annoying when it used to dry my face up and especially my lips! I had to literally use vaseline on my lips every 30 minutes which was annoying at school!
But after having 3 courses of the stuff and having waiting a few years, my acne has started to die down and is getting much better!

So i would really suggest that you go talk to your GP and see what he can give you, if that doesn't work then get referred to hospital to see a dermatologist and possibly get Isotretinoin unless you get advised otherwise. Also, another thing i would highly recommend is this cream called Duac. It is so beneficial especially when you have an outbreak (or sebacious cysts) as when they came for me they were huge and looked horrible! But fortunately that Duac cream really helped

So don't give up just yet make sure you at least try something, as these cysts do actually scar your skin and can cause pits so you want to try and act as soon as possible really. And last but not least be patient, as apparantly acne does ease down over time as you get older, so hopefully it won't last much longer

I used to have a problem with mine. Ask for doxycycline. Worked wonders.

Will the doctors still give me stuff even though it's not all over my face? I have a few spots on the rest of my face but it's just the worst on my chin

They'll give you creams first I think and then if they don't work they will give you antibiotics, then will suggest stronger things if they don't clear it up. Though tbh if it's quite mild they will be reluctant to give you anything stronger.

Do you have long hair? If so then if you sweat in the heat when you are in bed, the sweat could end up on your face and make your teenage acne flare up? Oh and if you haven't tried sudocrem,do.

I have mild acne and the doctor gave my Zineryt which is great stuff. I'm currently using Apiar Acnaphase which has some natural ingredients and benzyl benzoate in it, it works quite well.

The doctor can generally clear up acne pretty well! I know some of my friends regularly use stuff they got at the doctors, and it cleared up their faces really well. Also, watching what you eat can help tremendously. Just generally having a healthy diet is really beneficial! I know from personal experience.

Yes, I had that, too! I had to take a jar into assembly every day.

It is possible to get stress related symptoms... Such as being upset. Bit awkward having a cycle of worsening effects...

I suggest going to your gp and telling him everything you've said here....

Also, time can also be a factor, I've had my fare share and now it's minimal

I tried everything bar roaccutane from the doctor, nothing worked and I'd tried antibiotics, the pill, creams etc. Then I stopped using acne washes and started using 'Simple' face wash in the evening and the face wipes in the morning, using Sudocrem for active spots. I started eating healthily and drinking lots of water, at least 3 litres a day, and that's when I began to notice a huge difference. My skin is not perfect, but it's a million times better than it was a few years ago. It's frustrating because I'm 21 so not been a teen for a while, but it does finally look like it's under control. I can now hide the left over marks with make up (for sensitive skin) if I want to, but I prefer to go bare skin to prevent any potential break outs.

I used to have it really bad for years, i tried alot of treatments for it and only a few worked to a small extent. They also gave me annoying side ffects. However, since i stopped trying to use things on my face to get rid of them, its completely disappeared. Along with my face seeing plenty of sunshine recently, and drinking lots of water. My skin is spot free now.
