Re: Men's singles badminton Final 5th August: Lin Dan vs Lee Chong Wei
Such an extraordinary match...Lee Chong Wei fell short again
. Hats off to Lin Dan though, an immense player. I still lie in hope that LCW will stay on for a while and hopefully claim the big titles. Oh, but then there's also Chen Long

Re: Men's singles badminton Final 5th August: Lin Dan vs Lee Chong WeiOh I see! Awesome, at least you're not going when it's ridiculously hot, enjoy yourself :P(Original post by Casshern1456)

Haha, I literally use the Olympics as an excuse not to do anything but watch tv, it's so so good though -
Re: Men's singles badminton Final 5th August: Lin Dan vs Lee Chong WeiYou mean South Korea.(Original post by Anythingoo1)
Haha I was pretty much breathing manually too towards the last few points
but god was it intense. Yeah, it'll be interesting to see where the players go from here, I reckon he'll compete again, but highly doubt he'll be able to defend his championship a 3rd time. China will probably manufacture some more elite Badminton players, but countries like Denmark, North Korea, and Japan are also strong competitors.
I take it you're a badminton fan then? Or just whilst the Olympics are on?

Re: Men's singles badminton Final 5th August: Lin Dan vs Lee Chong Wei
Lin Dan is such a mong. He has no respect at all - just wheels off in celebration after. yes its the Olympic Final, but he isn't actually a man because he always does it - he always tries to bother his opponent by celebrating before shaking hands. You don't see Lee Chong Wei or more importantly, anyone else do that. That's why no one like's him outside China. What a bloody hyprocrite. "Skills wins you medals, but attitude wins you hearts".

Re: Men's singles badminton Final 5th August: Lin Dan vs Lee Chong WeiActually, if you watched the Men's doubles Finals against Denmark, when the Chinese pair won they did the same one "wheeled off" to the audience and the Chinese fans, the other was sobbing on the floor with emotion.(Original post by highestmountain)

Same with table tennis, when Zhang Jike won his single's finals against Wang Hao he went off to kiss the podium, why are you so bothered? Lin Dan did come back to give LCW 2 long hugs. -
Re: Men's singles badminton Final 5th August: Lin Dan vs Lee Chong WeiJust to make it clear I was a neutral fan. But Lin Dan always does it. Even at the World Championships last year, he was dancign around like he'd never won anything before, right in frotn of a despaired Lee Chong Wei who once again gave his all and fell agonisingly short. So many players and fans have noticed it, namely player like Taufik Hidayat. That shows me that he's just a girl who can't keep his happiness to himself.(Original post by Casshern1456)

Re: Men's singles badminton Final 5th August: Lin Dan vs Lee Chong WeiI completely agree. Lee Chong Wei apologised to his nation minutes afterwards, saying that he was sorry he disappointed them again. That is true humility.(Original post by highestmountain)

Re: Men's singles badminton Final 5th August: Lin Dan vs Lee Chong WeiI as a Malaysian was also despaired. But I tell you one of the tweets that summed up his performance.(Original post by asparkyn)

"Us Malaysians are heartbroken. Why? Not because we lost, but because our hero has tears streaming down his face.”
True hero. Maybe Lin Dan is such a great mountain to hike. But LCW is so graceful in defeat, he saves the face of the nation. I don't know how anyone could have blame him for that - it really wasn't just a case of free ice creams from baskin robbins, at least most of us Malaysians wanted it for him. I'm proud, and congratulations to all medal winners.Last edited by Wawasan; 06-08-2012 at 11:03. -
Re: Men's singles badminton Final 5th August: Lin Dan vs Lee Chong WeiWould you not danced around if you won the Olympic Gold medal in your sport? Especially when you have 1.3 billion Chinese supporters back home and a huge contingency of Chinese fans at the venue... I feel for Lee Chong Wei I do, I watch him dispatched Chen Long in fashionable style but Lin Dan is 28 now and there could be up and coming talents to replace him at the Next Olympics in Rio this might be his last such tournament, why couldn't he celebrate the way he did, I think Lin Dan was relieved he managed to win because there's been huge expectations on his shoulders and it means so much to him and the Chinese people the director of Chinese badminton came down to watch him match side the only Final he has came down from his director's seat.(Original post by highestmountain)

Re: Men's singles badminton Final 5th August: Lin Dan vs Lee Chong WeiI know he had just won an Olympic Gold but in such circumstances, and against a player like Lee Chong Wei who's minor mistakes over the years have costed him big titles, why couldn't he save his celebrations until he was out ofthe sight of his opponent. In badminton its a different thing - your victories are at a much higher expense to the opponent compared to team sports where the team collectively are dissappointed. Like I said, it is every game he does it so I think he needs to show more respect before he can be labelled as "the greatest ever".(Original post by Casshern1456)

Re: Men's singles badminton Final 5th August: Lin Dan vs Lee Chong WeiWhat a beautiful quote. I am not a Malaysian, but I've lived there for 12 years so I might as well be. Lee Chong Wei's reaction was gut-wrenching. The match itself was brilliant but still(Original post by Wawasan)

Re: Men's singles badminton Final 5th August: Lin Dan vs Lee Chong WeiI actually understand what you mean. Consider this though, Lin Dan is a military man he gives his salute only to the Chinese fans, his foremost loyalty is to his people and he will celebrate with them since they are the biggest group of fans at every venue.(Original post by highestmountain)

From a neutral's point of view, he has done nothing wrong...he gave LCW 2 big hugs and I'm sure they both have immense respect for each other, so let's leave it at that. -
Re: Men's singles badminton Final 5th August: Lin Dan vs Lee Chong WeiIt was a great advertisement for any aspiring or young badminton fan.(Original post by asparkyn)

I guess that when you compare Lin Dan to Lee Chong Wei, you could say that Lin Dan is better in the major tournaments, but Lee Chong Wei is better in super series/masters and opens.
Lin Dan's wins that Lee Chong Wei has not won:
World Championships
Olympic Games
China Masters Super Series
China Open Super Series
Lee Chong Wei's wins that Lin Dan has not won:
Malaysia Open Super Series
India Super Series
Indonesia Super Series
Singapore Super Series
If I'm not wrong, Lee Chong Wei has won quite a few more Super Series/tours. But then again, Lin Dan has 4 World Championships and 2 Olympic Games. I sure hope LCW can win a World Championship thoguh - I don't think he's retiring until he does. -
Re: Men's singles badminton Final 5th August: Lin Dan vs Lee Chong WeiI don't doubt the respect they both have for each other - they are probabyl actually best friends. But he shouldn't show his lack of charisma in front of everyone. I'm sure many of his own fans would prefer if his celebrations were of less disturbance to his opponents. Perhaps Lee Chong Wei didn't feel offended, but it doesn't set the right image for fans of both parties.(Original post by Casshern1456)

Re: Men's singles badminton Final 5th August: Lin Dan vs Lee Chong Wei
Too many bad line judgements from LCW

I was so depressed after he lost yesterday, I literally didn't do anything else except sit and feel sad.
One of the best badminton matches I have ever seen though. I've never been so tense watching badminton before, except in the WC 2011 and WC 2010 finals. -
Re: Men's singles badminton Final 5th August: Lin Dan vs Lee Chong WeiI have to disagree with you.(Original post by highestmountain)

If you've won the Olympic gold medal for the SECOND time (being the first person to do so in MS history) in a tough match against your hardest opponent, you WILL run around and celebrate.
LCW needed some time to himself after he lost because of the shock, so I don't think he would have minded if LD shook his hand a few minutes after the end.
I don't see how LD didn't set 'the right image'. He celebrated like he should have and was also a great sportsman when he hugged LCW.
