How long does it take for your clearing uni to respond?
I just want to ask anyone if they have had a clearing experience- how long does it take for a uni that you've added in clearing to respond to you? Thanks! I know it depends on the course and uni but on average? Thank you for your time and help!

It will depend on the university. If you're doing it in advance of results day then the uni might confirm your place relatively quickly whereas if you're doing it after/on 16th then it might take a day or so for confirmation as the uni will probably to do it in batches. For example on 16th you can't add a clearing choice until 5pm so the unis will probably focus on students who wish to go there in clearing during the afternoon/evening rather than spending time confirming the people who have already added them as a clearing choice.

As long as you've spoken to the uni in advance, agreed an offer and meet the time period that they give you to accept the offer then they should honour it.

This will completely depend on the university and you'd need to speak to them about it when discussing clearing options. Some universities will have accommodation available for clearing applicants whereas others will expect you to find private accommodation. Ensure that this is a question you get clear answers to when discussing your options.

Thak you so much for your help! No, Im not in clearing now, I want to withdraw my offer from my insurance to make it easier to go through clearing and then if I don't get my firm I can go straight through clearing.Ive just heard stories that people were confirmed about places over the phone then rejected after on UCAS track.

There's a lot of stories that happen related to results which aren't true but people like promoting them every year. There's a number of guides to clearing on the right hand side of your TSR and/or on the results/clearing tab at the top of the page - read those in advance as they give you loads of tips for what to do and how to prepare.

As long as you have full confirmation from a university that they're giving you an offer and you add them within the specified time period it shouldn't be an issue. The problems occur when applicants get confused/loose track of which uni they spoke to/misinterpret something which then leads them to think that they have an offer when they don't. After each conversation and offer get the university to email you with details of the offer they're making (and for which course & course code) and also tell them to include the time period you have to accept their offer. Normally they will say "you have 12/24/48/72 hours from this conversation to accept us as a clearing choice" but if you miss the deadline then you may loose the offer.

Thank you very, VERY much!!! That's made me feel more relaxed. Fingers crossed that wont happen, but I certainly feel more prepared. Yes I read the clearing tips on TSR and found them useful, more luccid than other guides.

Re: How long does it take for your clearing uni to respond?
    Hello!

I didn't go through clearing myself, but my best friend did so i got a pretty good idea about it, she rang around the unis and the one she got accepted for told her over the phone she could have a place straight away (she ended up at the University of Cumbria) all she had to do was go home and fill in the online stuff in my other friend also had the same situation as she didn't meet her course requirements but rang up the same Uni and they gave her a place on the same course at foundation level. I think it depends on the University though i know my best friend had a few 'maybe's' and they had to get back to her but the ones that didn't have places tended just to tell her straight away.

I know it's not a great help but hope there's some useful stuff in there for you

So when you enter clearing, do you have to phone the university? And just say u seen this course available on ucas or whatevere? then add them as a clearing choice on ucas? .. There is lots of information on here and ucas and everywhere.. but its a bit too much to some extent making it not very clear for us first timers...

Ive also decided im not going to my insurance.. and because im in scotland (get out results tuesday) i cant get them to decline me until results day, which means more waiting. But could I not phone unis etc and then get the time im to confirm and wait till im rejected then add it? Or will they check my ucas and see... if you get me?

Thanks very much to anyone that answers

I'm not entirely sure what happened after the phone stuff but she just rang around Uni's endlessly regardless of how close or far away they were asking if there was any places on the Pyshcology course she wanted to do! My advice would be to go on the UCAS website the night before and take down some Uni numbers in your phone or print them out and if the worst comes to the worse just ring around. Sorry my knowledge is limited because i didn't have to do it myself, i also saw it through my friend.

Good luck though, i'm sure you won't need all this advice

Hiya! Thanks so much for your advice, that really does make me feel more relaxed, I guess the universities will be upfront about it to prevent the students missing a place. Thanks!

Have you read an introduction to clearing?
As that answers all of your questions about how to find a place. Obviously, most people here are going through the results process for the first time so our aim is to provide as much support/information as we can from our position of "doing" results for about 6 years on TSR - if there's a better way you think it can be done or a way we can help make it clearer then let me know as I'd really like your feedback

Basically, yes you have to phone the university unless they have an online form to fill in and then they'll call you back. You find out which courses/universities are available in Scotland by looking at the UCAS website after midnight on 7th August. If you're looking at universities in the rest of the UK then you'll need to wait for A level results day on 16th August.

Ive also decided im not going to my insurance.. and because im in scotland (get out results tuesday) i cant get them to decline me until results day, which means more waiting. I'm not sure what your question is, sorry, it's a bit unclear.

If you don't want to go to your insurance and that ends up being where you're going (if you miss your firm offer and then they reject you) then you'll need to contact the university on Tuesday and ask them to release you. Once you've been released into clearing you'll get a clearing number on your UCAS track. This is the number you need to give when you phone universities about clearing places. Some universities will speak to you and give you a clearing offer even if you do not have a clearing number, so yes, if a university is happy to speak to you without having seen your UCAS application (which they can only see if you give them a clearing number) and make an offer then you can just add them as a clearing choice once you have been released by your original insurance choice. However, some universities will refuse to speak to students who aren't formally in clearing meaning you might find that universities will not consider an application from you for a clearing place until you're properly in clearing and have a clearing number.

    Does that answer your question?

Completely off topic, but have you realised I have my very own wiki tags that makes linking to articles easier? You just type [wiki]article_name[/wiki] and it magically does the rest for you! If you know the article name it's so much quicker - hence why I demanded TSR made them for me.

So you should read the Introduction_to_Clearing or maybe the Guide_to_Results_Day

See if you have been unsuccessfull with all choices and are in clearing? Do you just tell the unis your new grades recieved or will they be updated on your application?
If anyone knows thatd be great!

It depends on the course and the uni - and whether they think there will be enough people with the original grades in clearing.

It's worth trying if you're 1 grade below what they're asking but 2 or more would be pushing it. Because people will ring *anyone* on results day a lot of universities will SAY they want BBB or whatever when they're willing to take BBC (because if they said they want BBC people with BCC/CCC/CCD etc jam the phonelines). It's a delicate balance .

Basically you can TRY anywhere on the phone - but if they're asking for much higher than you've got then be ready for a short sharp "no" and try not to let it upset you.
