which is harder BA Dietetics or BA Occupational Therapy?
Im struck between the two, all i know is that there both amazing careers.
I do A levels in Double Health and Social Care and Religious Studies, I could get onto a Occupational Therapy course as they dont require sciences like Dietetics.
But I just want to know which is harder? will i find dietetics harder because i didnt do A level Biology or Chemistry?

    Hi,
I was looking into dietetics and was put off by the ammount of biochemistry and general science involved... I'm not too bad at biology but my biochemistry module made me cry lol, it looks more difficult than OT but that's just my opinion from the science point of view.

it is also possiblt to do a nutrition degree which doesn't involve quite as much science but I'm not really sure what you can do with it, to me it seemed like another route to get to be a dietician, if you didn't do A level Biology or Chemistry you may find it harder but not impossible I'm sure the uni will help you with extra "science stuff". At the end of the day I guess it depends on which you prefer.

    Hi,

No I don't I'm hoping to study Speech and Language Therapy. Dietetics is what first got me interested in a career in health and I spent a lot of time looking at course and finding out more information. All the courses seem to require a lot of science and as I said in my post I just don't want to have to cope with all that science... But if it's dieteics you really have your heart set on then there's no reason why you shoudn't apply. Although to be honest I think you need to have a strong academic background in science. Maybe you could email some of the uni's and ask them for more info eg if they are able to support you with extra bio / chem help.

I am also looking at OT as an alternative to SLT because there seem to be more places through clearing (I'd planned to do Nursing originally and then withdrew) it also sounds really interesting but it really is down to you which course you prefer at the end of the day. Also if you applied for dieteics and were unsuccessful the uni's may suggest you try the nutritionist route first and then go onto postgrad, the nutrionist degree doesn't involve quite as much in depth science.

    Good luck!

Sorry, I just re read your thread and if you don't have any A level Science then you would not be able to get on the dieteics degree. I have 9 credits in biology from my acccess course and I don't have enough science to do that degree. You might be able to get on the nutrtionist degree though but OT is probs better with your subjects

I definitley realised nursing wasn't for me so I started looking at other health care professions and SLT was the one which stood out the most, firstly because it involves subjects I enjoy and am good at like English and Psychology (rather than Maths which I'm terrible at lol) and most importanly I could really "see" myself in the career.

Im still thinking about OT though... because there are more courses in OT than SLT and more in clearing by the looks of it. I'm probs going to end up applying for both lol. The great thing about OT is someot uni's offer a term abroad and also it's fairly easy to work abroad once you have established experience in the UK! I really want to travel. I'm going to see how it goes, if I get in for OT and I still want to do SLT then theres always postgrad lol.

Have you just finished your A Levels? sorry, I can't remember what you said with regards to where you are in the UCAS scheme, check out SLT too. I'd happily take up a place on either, roll on next thursday! lol
