Interesting. Have you ever had any problems using torrents from a virus-perspective? Do people genuinely get busted for using torrents? How do some people get caught and not others? Cheers for your response

CDs, mostly on Amazon. Rarely, when the CD cannot be obtained I'll download it. If I cannot legally buy it, nobody is hurt by illegally obtaining it. I really don't like downloads though. I've only downloaded on itunes because I got a voucher.

CDs. Got my secret jazz stores hear and there. I do download sometimes however if the album is too expensive/hard to find. But in general i prefer to have the solid copy w/liner notes.

Nobody is hurt? Physically maybe not. But in terms of making money etc, do you not think that the artists lose out?

There is this idea that if they weren't downloading it illegally they wouldn't purchase the music anyway.

    Personally I don't give a **** about the artists.

What about artists/bands that are not making music anymore? How is downloading their music going to harm them?

Did you read the post? If I can't get it legally, they are not losing anything by me not buying a CD that is not on sale!

If it was impossible to buy it in the first place (have a go at finding a copy of the last supper by belphegor on cd) then how is downloading it going to hurt.

As for me I buy CDs and vinyls wherever I can, and download other stuff when I don't have the money and really want to be able to listen to it. A lot of stuff I download I end up wanting to buy, I downloaded stuff by the gathering at first, and now I own all of their albums on CD, and now I'm buying them up again on vinyl. If it wasn't for the first download I probably would never have bought anything by them.

Why not? Why should they not get money for what they do? It costs a lot of money to produce music, to buy the equipment, to tour e.t.c

Not my problem. Nothing's going to happen. Besides, how is it my responsibility to pay for the costs of tours/equipment etc?

Hmm. You say it costs money to tour. But if you think of an artist, such as Rihanna, she must make a lot of money from the tickets bought for the tour. There's always a profit. But yeah, what you're saying is right anyway, they should get the money.

Those arguments don't encompass artists like Rihanna; they are more targeted towards independent musicians/vocalists and electronic producers.

the same responsibility you have to pay for your food, or your clothes, or a television, or a videogame, or a piece of computer equipment. Because if people don't support the artists then they might not be able to continue making music, I know of a lot of musicians who have had to stop making music because they can't afford to.

I don't understand how illegal music downloading is so widely seen as acceptable. I'm assuming you wouldn't steal a CD from a shop, this is no different (apart from involving less effort)
