Smart trousers and a shirt should be fine.

Black trousers, White shirt, and maybe a tie is a generally safe option. They just want to know that you put effort into your presentation, but they really wouldn't care about the details.

    I agree with your brother

It is pretty much impossible to over-dress for an interview

(you could miss the jacket but not the shave)

You should always appear neat at interview no matter what the dress code for the job is. I would recommend a light grey suit with brown shoes (preference going to Loakes). A white or plain coloured shirt with a patterned (either striped or a small repeating pattern) tie in not too outgoing a colour. If you don't have a grey suit, then black shoes are necessary.

I would recommend that you go clean-shaven, to show that you really care about getting the job and that you can be serious.

That's what I'd recommend. But I don't have much knowledge of recruiting etc. in specific, just a little knowledge of suit etiquette. I guess some feedback is better than none?
