No lunch break at college?
I haven't got my timetable yet but someone I know has and they have a lesson at 9 until 11 and then they have a 25 minute break and lessons start again at 11:25 until 4:30 with no break. Is it normal to not have a lunch break?
I have IBS so I can't go ages without eating as it leaves me with crippling stomach cramps, so it's going to be hard for me if I end up with a similar timetable.
So is this normal to not have a lunch break at ...well.. Lunch time? -
Re: No lunch break at college?
Even if they don't, I'm sure if you explain your issues the teachers will be more than happy for you to have a snack.
We had a few diabetics in my school who were allowed to once they explained, in any case. And whether it seems like it or not, teachers generally don't want your health in danger/you to be hurting. -
Re: No lunch break at college?
we had lunchtime lessons and early morning lessons, and depending on the teacher, some classes were allowed to eat breakfast/lunch during them, as long as they werent too smelly/loud/tempting for the whole class
just explain the situation to them, and i'm sure they'd understand. either that, or ask to go to the bathroom and just have a walk and a bite to eat instead

We only have tutor time one day a week and that's at the end of the day (3:30-4:30) and the timetable shows no lunch. 25 mins is the longest between classes, else it's just 5 mins :/(Original post by smart girl)
Its very unlikely that you get no breaks for lunch at college. Everyone ive known have always had a break for lunch, usually during tutor time atleast.

There is no blocks inbetween the lessons. And the times all have either no time inbetween them or 5 minute inbetween. Some days start at 9 and others 11 or 12 so you know some days are okay I guess(Original post by TenOfThem)
You will not be in all lessons though, will you
You will have study periods when you can eat/go to the canteen/go to the loo

Re: No lunch break at college? My mate did 5 subjects at AS and found himself in a similar situation. Just talk to one of the tutors about it and they may be able to move you into a different class at a different time if this happens. That's what my mate did anyway, moved one of his lessons to a different block.(Original post by _Shmiley)

However your college organises it they should be able to rectify it because it is ridiculous for someone to not have lunch, so I wouldn't worry
Sometimes you might have to have a snack and delay lunch a bit but don't worry about not eating.

Re: No lunch break at college?
We never used to have a specific "lunch break" but we did have a free period at either 12 or 1 and the canteen was open during that time. If you don't get an actual break, then make a sandwich or take some snacks with you to eat during the day. They can't stop you form eating, it's not right, so don't worry.

Re: No lunch break at college?I have IBS as well and often university will timetable lectures in blocks starting at 11:00 through until as late as 15:00 (although they do give us 5 minutes break between them in order to get to the next lecture theatre, so you can only take advantage of that to eat if you're in the same room consecutively!). There over the counter tablets you can get which I find if I take them on the day they usually stop most of the pain, although mine is admittedly not as bad as it can be so it may only work since it is quite mild.(Original post by _Shmiley)

Short of that I guess you could always eat snacks and fruit between lessons? To keep you on until they finish

I'm on codine for the pain I normally get so I take some of that most days and then I'm also have to take 3 antispasmodics a day to stop it :L I've never tried over the counter ones because I don't know if I can take them with my current cocktail :P but I'm going to wait until I get my timetable to see what mines like and if I have any breaks and if hers is just an error(Original post by 2^Oscar)
