Re: MHoC By-election - August 2012In the Olympic spirit I think we should recognise the other language on the tickets website and I ask someone to translate this into Cymraeg.(Original post by obi_adorno_kenobi)
Égalité, c'est pas pour nous! En fait, nous avons pris les mésures contre mobilité sociale, contre les ouvriers, et contre les étrangers.
The clear motto of the Tories, I think. That is, in English: Equality, it's not for us. In fact, we've taken proper precautions against social mobility, workers and foreigners. -
Re: MHoC By-election - August 2012Yes and I have been contacted by a possible candidate. All may or may not be revealed come the deadline for candidates.(Original post by toronto353)
Did you see my other comment about a potential MRLP candidate earlier in this thread? -
Alright, I shall do it later on.(Original post by barnetlad)
In the Olympic spirit I think we should recognise the other language on the tickets website and I ask someone to translate this into Cymraeg. -
Re: MHoC By-election - August 2012TSR UKIP is currently in the process of selecting a candidate. We have had a few candidates step forward and declare their interest so UKIP will vote first to select its candidate.(Original post by Rakas21)
Will any other parties declare whether or not they will be contesting. -
Re: MHoC By-election - August 2012Simply asking Meenu a question if she is cool with being discriminated against because of her gender/ethnicity. Candidate A (M) candidate B (F)- both equal, but employer chooses candidate A purely for the reason that he is a man, if that is okay?(Original post by Matthew_Lowson)
So you are suggesting that because people are from a certain ethnicity or gender that they should have an automatic entitlement to a position?
Of course it is in no way acceptable for anyone to use grounds such as gender as a deciding factor in choosing to not offer someone a position but it is also unacceptable for someone to be obliged to appoint someone (who in their view an inferior candidate) purely on the grounds of their gender.
Of course I'm not saying that if people should be automatically entitled a job based on sex/ethnicity, for the record I'm against stuff like all women short lists. Just wanted to ask Meenu a question. -
Is the employer male or female? And why does the woman getting the job not mean discrimination?(Original post by eff01)

Re: MHoC By-election - August 2012Just want to find out if she thinks that is okay.(Original post by ukip72)
When did she say that?
I'm not calling for any sort of 'lefty positive discrimination'- just simply asking Meenu a question. We all know that discrimination in the workplace exists so your idea of having faith on the human race that they will not allow discrimination to happen (which is surprising given the view of conservatives on human nature) is wishful thinking.(Original post by Rakas21)
Employers will logically offer the job to whoever they believe will be most productive. We do not need lefty positive discrimination, have faith in the human race and its ability to make the correct decisions. -
Re: MHoC By-election - August 2012This is just an example- it would be discrimination if a woman gave another woman a job, even though the man was equally qualified for the role. Discrimination is not just about women, men get discriminated against as well.(Original post by obi_adorno_kenobi)

Re: MHoC By-election - August 2012I acknowledge that there may be a degree of discrimination from some bigots but the vast majority of employers will place the welfare of the company in picking the best candidate above their own beliefs.(Original post by eff01)

My point is that if companies actively discriminate then the company will gain a reputation for not hiring minority x and as a result minority x will simply apply for a job with a different company. -
Yes quite. I do take exception to "lefty positive discrimination" however. It's firmly linked with middle class do-gooders. Plenty of them in the Lib Dems and Tories as well as in New Labour. A pretty centrist nonsense. Look at old Labour and you find none of it. Equal Pay Act balanced things out, it didn't create artificial bases.(Original post by eff01)

Re: MHoC By-election - August 2012What do you mean by position on this matter? Do you mean that you're undecided as to whether to field a candidate or not or do you mean that you're currently decided whom to select?(Original post by RoryS)

Re: MHoC By-election - August 2012There's been limited discussion on this by-election, so I intend to start discussions within the party. So I suppose we're undecided who to put forward...(Original post by toronto353)

Re: MHoC By-election - August 2012He means that we already have so many MP seats that we're deciding if it'd be selfish or not of us to take another one from other more needy parties.(Original post by toronto353)
