Chances of getting course through adjustment
Was just wondering if anyone knew how likely is it that there will be places available on a nursing course if I apply through adjustment?
90% certain I'm going to get higher grades than I need to and I'd really like to do nursing, didn't think I'd get the grades for it before which is why I didn't apply in the first place.
Is there anything extra I can do before results day like ringing them and letting them know I'm interested? Or will that just annoy them haha

Re: Chances of getting course through adjustment
The overall chance was 1 in 11 when I calculated it a few years ago, but it's unclear how course and university affect that chance - it could be that certain courses come up more frequently, or certain universities are better for it than others. However, Adjustment is no-risk, so if you're eligible and want to change it's worth a try.
Getting your name known isn't a bad idea, but don't enter the realms of hassling them.

Re: Chances of getting course through adjustmentI guess that's the ratio of people who registered for Adjustment to people who got a place through Adjustment? If so it will be skewed by people who thought "Ooooh a new button(Original post by TheSownRose)

" and clicked it and registered for Adjustment without going on to use it, or when they weren't eligible to

Re: Chances of getting course through adjustmentIt does make it quite hard to come up with any meaningful figures about Adjustment because it's impossible to accurately account for the shiny-new-button factor. Will also be interesting to see how the new funding rules regarding people who get AAB+ affect things

Re: Chances of getting course through adjustment
Oohh thats quite low haha! I was originally going to go through clearing but I figured they would probably be more likely to offer me a place through adjustment. Hopefully!
If I don't get a place I will probably decline my current firm because it was just something I chose for the low entry requirements
I might ring them up on monday, maybe I can get an idea of whether they think places will be available

Re: Chances of getting course through adjustmentClearing is about 1 in 10; it's slightly clearer how this is distributed around the universities, but because Clearing itself is unpredicted year to year you can't base anything on it.(Original post by bethkj)

However, as P_T has pointed out, it's difficult to get statistics for Clearing as well as for Adjustment. Because you enter Clearing automatically if you hold no offers, it's likely there are a lot more people in Clearing than there are people actively using Clearing. Of the people actually trying to get a Clearing place, it could be that 50% are successful - we don't know.
Theoretically, any place in Clearing is also available in Adjustment. If you'd prefer your current course to taking a gap year and are confident you've exceeded the offer, personally I'd stick with Adjustment.Last edited by TheSownRose; 04-08-2012 at 23:34. -
Re: Chances of getting course through adjustmentI can't imagine it'll make a whole heap of difference.(Original post by bethkj)
What if I would rather take a gap year, should I still stick with adjustment?
I just want the best chances of getting into a nursing course as possible!

Re: Chances of getting course through adjustmentThe AAB changes should not affect nursing because nursing places are funded out of a different pot of money to most university courses and the number of nursing places remains capped.(Original post by Potally_Tissed)

What may affect nursing is that it tends to attract mature applicants and that the fall in the number of mature applications is much greater than that from 18-20 year olds. -
Re: Chances of getting course through adjustmentI meant more as a general thing for Adjustment this year.(Original post by nulli tertius)

There's other complications with courses like Nursing in Adjustment/Clearing like CRB and OH checks as well that may make it slightly trickier to find somewhere.
