Men's 100m Final
So, who do you all think is going to reach the final tomorrow? And who is going to win? Predictions of times?
-----
Imo 5 of the places are already taken provided there are no false starts:
Bolt, Blake, Gatlin, Gay and Powell.
The other 3 are for the taking and quite a few are capable of doing it. Too many to name actually but I'm actually thinking, without actually being biased towards GBR, Gemeli, Chambers and Ryan Bailey.
Can't believe Dwain Chambers ran a 10.02, having a SB of 10.25. I think he can actually make the final. Well, it was a +2m/s wind, but despite that he destroyed Vicaut, as well as Bledman who ran 9.86 last month, so you can rule those out as taking the spot imo.
Also, can't believe this BS:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/olympics/19126909 - "St Kitts and Nevis sprinter Kim Collins has dramatically dropped out of the Olympics after falling out with his team for visiting his wife." -

Re: Men's 100m FinalYou can't really say it wasn't impressive because as Michael Johnson said, he didn't sprint at any point during it.(Original post by silent ninja)
Bolt looks very worried and wasn't that impressive in his heat. Upset on the cards here...what time is the final? -
Re: Men's 100m FinalFinal is at 21:50. If Bolt has a good race he will win but a bad start could mean he never catches up with Blake.(Original post by silent ninja)

Re: Men's 100m FinalWe'll see in the semi final how much he's got left. He had a concerned look on his face during the interview. He's not in Beijing form so it's not in the bag by any means.(Original post by Idle)

Re: Men's 100m Final
The track is meant to be fast so we should see good times regardless of whether they're in the best shape (Bailey =PB of 9.88 yesterday in heats). So I'll have to change my mind from a 9.7x to a 9.6x, provided it doesn't rain.
Bolt didn't even execute his drive phase so he has a lot more left, you can also see he was jogging and relaxed shoulders at about 50m. But if he does win, it'll be very close imo.
I just hope there is a decent tailwind and it's warm lolLast edited by TooEasy123; 05-08-2012 at 09:49. -
Re: Men's 100m Final
We all know that Bolt will probably go into ultra mode and snatch the victory.
If Gatlin wins, it will be such a farce. I think a lot of people won't acknowledge him as the true winner because of his doping offences. And to a smaller extent if Blake wins, since he had a positive test a few years back. But I would rather have Blake any day.
I hope a brit gets through to the final, I'm rooting for Gemili, but Chambers probably has the best chance.

Re: Men's 100m FinalYeah, someone I know trains with them and not many of the Jamaican team can see past Blake for the gold. I'm so excited(Original post by Fleximetrics)
I'm taking a punt on Blake, i saw an interview with their coach saying that Blake is consistently better over 100m in training. However Bolt will win the 200m I'm sure.
Either way it will be amazing!

Re: Men's 100m Final
Gatlin looked pretty dangerous IMO. 9.82 and looking around, but yeah Bolt was very impressive. Chambers missed a spot by 1 place, dammit. Gemeli had a bad start and ran 10.06, so close to reaching the final, too.
This is the final line-up:
Startlist
+ Lane Bib Athlete PB SB
+ 2 3051 THOMPSON Richard 9.85 9.96
+ 3 2184 POWELL Asafa 9.72 9.85
+ 4 3217 GAY Tyson 9.69 9.86
+ 5 2169 BLAKE Yohan 9.75 9.75
+ 6 3216 GATLIN Justin 9.80 9.80
+ 7 2170 BOLT Usain 9.58 9.76
+ 8 3205 BAILEY Ryan 9.88 9.88
+ 9 2547 MARTINA Churandy 9.91 9.91
I can't believe it - having those 5 athletes ALL lined up together like this is going to be epic. I was expecting either a false start (still could happen) or injuries to ruin it.
Also can't believe Powell shut down and looked the wrong way lol. Martina did awesomely in beijing as well.
