Re: Lol at the anti-China sentiment on Facebook.Indeed. This whole idea of the whole nation being enslaved is proposterous in the current day context. In the cultural revolutoon yes it was bad, but nowadays in China I can get a copy of Orwell's 1984 anywhere...(Original post by Nice.Guy)
I hate the fact people put it down to 'the Chinese are good at everything'...
It's down to bloody hard work you lazy, ignorant b******* -

Re: Lol at the anti-China sentiment on Facebook. It's a common misconception that the Chinese are good at everything. Their olympic medals tally - while impressive - is to be expected given that they have 1.35bn people and invest massively in sport. Their athletes don't work harder than any other top athletes and they don't do better, there is just a larger talent pool combined with a decent amount of investment.(Original post by Nice.Guy)

Re: Lol at the anti-China sentiment on Facebook.Exactly. Similar with the USA. These are superpowers who pile huge resources into their athletes and have huge talent pools to choose from... what do people expect?(Original post by stefl14)

Re: Lol at the anti-China sentiment on Facebook.Yep. I don't know where people get the idea that Chinese people work harder than everyone else because it's simply not true for the most part.(Original post by yl_llb)

Re: Lol at the anti-China sentiment on Facebook.I've said this to my mum 3 or 4 times now... Of course they win lots of medals, they have lots of people to chose from, and they probably have a bigger national budget to allocate money to sports from (please don't ask for figures, I don't have any). Same as the USA.(Original post by stefl14)

Re: Lol at the anti-China sentiment on Facebook.Exactly. If the USA or China didn't win the most medals it would be a monumental failure for them. The UK punches above its weight.(Original post by A.J10)

Everyone's brave on Facebook, what do you expect? -
Re: Lol at the anti-China sentiment on Facebook.
Should have seen Twitter after Japan made the appeal in the Men's gymnastics. There were dozens of people saying things like they should be "nuked again", "slant eyed *****", "time for another Earthquake", "they're all chinks" etc. things of that magnitude.
A fair amount of people in the UK are pretty racist, you shouldn't be surprised. More so when they think they're being shielded by the Internet. Though it boils down to outright ignorance more than anything else. -
