How would I go about changing my course?
Hello all so depending on results (Oh God...) I'm hopefully going to Sussex to study sociology, but I've had a change of heart and really really want to do a combined degree in Sociology and philosophy, how likely is it to change my course? I'm hoping to get an A in Philosophy at a level (fingers crossed) so I do have experience with the subject. What would you suggest as the best way to go about this. Emailing sussex now, wait till (if) I get there or go through Ucas clearing?

    Thanks

If you email them now you have more options. IF they say no you can either keep your current course, or ask them to reject you so that you can use Clearing. You'll be in Clearing straight away to find a new course.

If you wait until results day to ask then if they say no you can ask them to release you into Clearing, but that will take up to 2 weeks and by then all the good places will be gone.

If you wait til you get there to ask then your only option would be to drop out.

Email them now asking. I did with Sheffield and they changed it straight away for me! I know it's a different uni, but they can't take away the offer they've given you.

Thanks so much for your reply! I guess I better email them but I constantly worry that they'll say no and then just cancel my offer, can they even do that.....?

Thanks for your reply I better suck it up and email them, I'm a scaredy cat though. My insurance is Sheffield for Sociology, perhaps I'll see you there...

If the required grades are slightly higher on the universities website for sociology and philosophy, if they do indeed decide to change my course for me, do you think they would definitely change my offer requirements as part of the deal?

If you've chosen them as your firm then they can't take your offer away unless they've made a mistake or if they inform you first - at which point you can email and say "noooooooo, don't do that! I'll stick with what I've got !" if you wish. But an offer for a course you don't want is as good as no offer at all.

And yes, of course they will change the requirements. Otherwise, everyone would do this as a sneaky way to get a low offer.
