If you do not pass at all, I doubt it

I am not saying it is not worth trying

You may want to consider Foundation courses rather than a degree

I am suggesting a foundation course rather that a foundation degree

I do not know enough about individual courses or universities

What subject are you looking for, are you restricted to a geographical area

I'm not restricted to a specific area.
The reason i say Foundation Degree is because i can get student finance to help me live and get by.

But yeah pretty much anywhere if you have any suggestions.

I want to study something in the IT Field - Computer science maybe?

I think you will struggle to get on a foundation degree with no L3 qualifications

Have you passed any part f your access

as the previous poster has already said, i'm not sure how u will get accepted onto a degree programme without havin passed your access? so far as i'm aware they only care about u havin maths and english at GCSE level. for the actual degree itself, they look for successfully completed recent study at level 3.

since i did an access too and know that even before u get your official cert, u will know whether u have passed or not, i'm presuming that u know u have not passed? if u don't mind my askin, where did u fall down? was it the maths/english component? or did u fail some of your assignments?

It was the Maths components of the course i think that i didn't finish one of the Units and i never got a call back to come back in at all once i finished end of May

This year if i don't get in.. My family are gonna just kill me damn.. Lol - Well if worst comes to worst. Do you think i should just do One year of a BTEC National Certificate? I'm still only 21 so - I guess i can wait till 22 - Graduate at 25 isn't as bad i guess...

no offense babe, but first u don't even sound like u fully know - and it was for you to chase it up if u knew u'd got a unit missin. it's not the college's responsibility but yours. it's u that gets the cert after all.

never mind your fam. i might have to kill u!

do u like to study? might sound a stupid Q but, i felt it may have relevance

Please don't take this the wrong way but if you are struggling to pass your Access course then what makes you think you wont struggle with a degree.

I went to University via the Access system and like you I only had GCSE's before that. The jump up in workload, difficulty and complexity between Access and Degree level is immense.

I have to say that if the reason you're struggling with the Access course is academic then you will struggle to an even greater extent at University.

From a purely practical point of view I doubt any University would consider you for a Degree with no Level 3 Qualifications after all if they did there would be no need for the Access system.

If the maths at access was a problem I think you would struggle with a CS degree anyway

Some of the IT foundation degrees just need one A level

Consider Btec plus an A Level using evening classes to get the A Level in one year

Then look at Foundation and/or HNC/D courses

Have you got any offers from unis specifically stating they require all units of the maths component? To pass the access course you need 45 level three credits with 15 level 2 credits. I don't know if this was the case for everyone but there were 6 possible units to take in maths with a total of 18 credits available, however we only needed 6 of them at level 2 to pass the course.

i cannot be certain but OP is looking to do a subject that would surely require him to pass the maths element?

Perhaps, depends which access course he did. I did access to science and the three course level three modules were science based. The maths was just a kind of gcse equivalency at level 2.

sorry, i was obviously not being clear enuff. my mistake - that was the point i was making...the fact that since he is hoping to do a degree that is going to require a decent grasp of maths...no matter what his access course pathway he would be required to pass the maths and english components, to pass the course overall. the complete element of maths (so all units) and not just some parts of it.

presume that since he was doing the maths (level 2) then he does not already have a C grade or above at GCSE, which straight away will become a hindrance if the uni is looking for a maths n english pass at GCSE. which most seem to do. especially for courses where maths would be an advantage.

Yeah I see what you mean, but I was talking more in terms of him passing or failing his access course

well, going by my course. it's a fail if u do not get all units in your maths/english.

however depending on what degree u wanna study, u may get away with it if they are willing to accept u without all your maths credits. fine for social science but not so great for science or suchlike.

this is gonna be down to the conditions of your offer (and any offers the OP may be holding but as he is contemplating clearing, it's possible his conditions haven't been met hence clearing, ie, maths is proving a bug bear)

Technically you fail to pass the course(my course, at least) If you didn't achieve 45 l3 credits and 15 l2 credits. But there are certain rules of combination as to what you achieve vs what grades you can put on the final certificate. Access course grading is a bit unnecessarily complicated, or at least it was on my course lol.
