an environmental art, six is sick, GHOST
    I am Malaysian Born Chinese.
I would like to know what the criteria are for Westerner or Western student in choosing a hostel or rent a room outside the campus?
We, Chinese, is much care about an environmental art and the historical/background of the room we stay.
The environmental art something like 'six is sick', the sixth floor is the sick floor.
We care about somebody has died in your room or not? That is ghost after he/she died?
Are you merely depend on the feeling before you rent a room or stay in hostel?
Thank you very much for your discussion.

    Err... what?

I'm Chinese and all I care about when looking for a place is that it looks decent and feels comfortable...
Well I think a lot of people from any background will be a bit wary if they heard people have been murdered in the house or something, but not sure about this 6th floor thing. I generally don't choose to live in tall flats anyway so I haven't come across the problem.

Edit: if the 6th floor is such a problem in Asian countries, then do they just eliminate that floor in every hotel? You are just way too superstitious I think!!

In Malaysia, there are a lot of hotels and office buildings eliminate the fourth floor to 3A and 3B floor exspeacially in the casino. Even if the management is different races like Indians and Malays, they also do like this.

It's not made of compacted hair. That's an old theory or something, but I agree it is proven to have no medical value. The Chinese actually tested it too and found nothing... so I doubt they're going around killing the animals for it any more.

Just leave OP to live in his own world I know quite a few Malaysian people.. including my brother in law, who has lived there for most his life. I've never heard of these things that the OP is mentioning, so let's try not to generalize the Chinese/malaysians please.
